I'm looking for a 256MB stick of RAM. My current Samsung DTL hit a wall at 171Mhz, timings maxed, 176 relaxed. Anyway, after what I did to my current CPU, I need all the FSB I can get (I'll explain the CPU bit later on.)

So right now I'm looking at Mushkin PC2700 2-2-2, and Corsair. But all the Corsair gets me confused, I don't know which stick has the Winbond chips, and what not. And what chips does the Mushkin use? Price isn't really an issue, Corsair seems to be the most expensive, $110 I think.

Now my CPU. AthlonXP 1600+, rendered un-unlockable (did you follow that) due to a scratch in between two bridges, which ground the connection. I am working out the combinations I can get, so far I have got a 8.5, but with my RAM it's useless anyway. I am also going to pick up a new CPU or four. :)

Thanks guys.

It seems the Corsair XMS PC3200C2 uses 6ns Winbond chips and the XMS PC3500C2 uses the 5ns chips.

Corsair XMS PC3200 C2 has proven to be great memory. The 3500 should be good as well if u can find a 256MB stick of it :)

Very difficult to find the 256MB sticks here so I had to settle for a 512MB stick and considering moving up to nForce2 and using the 128bit mode would require 2 sticks and that would bring total to 1GB. I hope it clocks high but somewhat doubtful anything above 200MHz. I hope it is not the case though. :)

If price is no object the Corsair XMS PC3500 512MB will suit your needs and you'd be another satisifeid Corsair XMS user ;) Infact, I've never seen 256MB sticks, only 512.

I got two sticks of ram for sale if you're interested. xms3000 c2 and xms 3200 c2. @ 3.2v, the 3000 has gotten me 211mhz @ max timings, and the 3200 has gotten me 223 @ max timings. If you're interested I'd sell ya both, shipped, for $185.

They're both 256mb, btw, and heatware is in my sig.

:D

Well, I only need 256MB. Need = want = afford. How's the Mushkin though?

How's the Mushkin though?

I was just wondering the same thing;) Has anyone tried it?

I've heard fairly good things about Mushkin. They usually go beyond their ratings just like any good manufacture and people have had their PC3000 (I forgot CAS) run at 200FSB CAS2. That's insane. They are a real good bang for the buck. I've also heard they have great RMA Service. Although Corsair is still the best. Never skimp on: Mobo, RAM, and PSU. Those are the 3 components you can't operate quickly if they are faulty.
