Hey,

do the opterons have free multis like the fx have?

how do they overclock?

No unlocked multis.
They seem to have a weird wall around 2200 mhz.
Mickey mouse crossed this wall in some weird way if i recall correctly

I think it was rather a barrier in FSB speeds, not in total clock speeds - AFAIK, all the Opterons tested maxed out at about 225-230MHz FSB.

And this was true for all models, 240-246 ...

I disagree with that. The problem does seem to be with total mhz. I've seen numerous Opteron 144s hit 2.2ghz at over 240mhz HTT.

I hit 2.325 ghz on 146 on a Sk8N at 230 FSB anything over that it bsod. Weird part is that there is no BIOS features that let you tinker around with volts or mem timings. BIOS must see the CPUID and lock the bios I wish some one could mod that..

Right Now I got a 246 In a Master 2 Far at 212 MHZ which is about 2.125 ghz and I get about 5.8 Gig/s of mem bandwidth

so all overclocking options (volts, mem timings etc.) are locked while using a opteron?

is it possible to mod this?

wrench, i got a version of the sk8n bios that has cpu voltage adjustments and mem timings, 1.3 or 1.2 or something like that, ill get more info when i get home

Jual the initial Release of SK8N bios has unlocked those options but voltages didn't work right for some reason when I used CPUID it said the Volts were still the same. Also if you use a 146 on the initial release the CPU cget identified as an Engineering Sample (weird). Unfortunatly that BIOS is buggy as hell and some features didn't work for me. I haven't tried any clockgens that might do the trick.

When I had a 240 Oced to 1.85ghz (450 mhz) (sk8N) and Power Color stock 9800 Pro No with atp pc3200 ram cas 3,4,4,8 I broke 19k 2k1 marks. I did eventually brake the 20k Barrier. I did this with out doing volt mods or uping vcore 1.45. This CPU ran very Cool 44 Full Load 34 Idle while OCed. I think AMD realy has more underneath the hood then they are letting on.

Jan I would like to find out myself. :)
I think if there were PCI locks and vcore options these cpu's would be able to do more but So far Vcore mem timings are locked. Fortunatly I finnaly got my PC3200LLPT Corsair Ram back cas 2 is quite sweet.

I'll post some screenies maybe of my rig running Opty. Btw these cpu's don't oc well but hey sure are hella fast stock wise so If you want stable workstation its the way to go 148 are almost twice as cheap as fx 51 and same speed. (But they don't oc well) I also Noticed that the 14X oc better then 24X, maybe cause they don't have the other HT links.

wrench, bios version 1002 has the voltage and timings options, gives me 1.65 and 1.75 options, had to up voltage to hit 2.2ghz on the 144 to 1.65v, no voltmods done, so the mem is just at 200ish, and cpu at appx 250fsb, the cap might be the pci lock, maybe if a 940 board comes out with agp/pci locks, can test it out

Thats a pretty good OC. I think I could prolly get the same on a SK8V or SK8N with this memory.

I am starting to dislike the Master 2 far for lack of options.

you guys tried setting to 167fsb and then doing the rest from within windows?

Didn't try that. MSI has no Option but SK8N might...

I think I need to learn how to mod bios' Have to figure out CpuID
inorder to much with Opteron

Any who here is my Score running a Single 246 at 2.1 gihz and 9800 pro. Nothing to brag about but I use this machine for Inventor anyway.
