I want to put holes in a cpu heatsink so i can slap it on me 9700. How do i remove some of the fins?

Is it a copper one with 'linked' fins? If so feel free to drill right through the base and then just push them out of the way with something.

Ya, I would (and have) just drill through. No matter how the fins are (maybe cut them in the spot the screw would be if I wanted but probably not).
If it's a copper one like lalPOOO said they are soldered or something along those lines and you can kinda tweak and pull them off if you really need.

Just drill right into them, they just get pushed out of the way. Don't bother trying to remove them or anything like that.

question - can you get shims for fx5900's?

its glue that is so strong that it is EVIL. Get some on your fingers...and it will be there for awhile:D
I really wanted to try out the new cooling so i used super glue. It would taken me a few days to find all the necessary stuff to mount it otherwise.
It's Cyanoacrylate that reacts with moisture in the air and turns to a solid. Cures quickly but is very brittle.
Try to find a tap for 4/40 screws and drill out the base to tap and mount with screws. It's what i do with cpu hsf modded video cards.... Lemme check and i'll tell you the drill size
It's a number 43 drill bit or .175" for 4/40 tap... if i wasn't so sloshed i'd give you the 64th" size too.

well, DONT use superglue on the shim for attaching huge heatsinks:D
Yesterday, I opened my case, and the heatsink simply fell off when i barely touched it. The super glue just couldnt handle the heat:p:

Its also because superglue isn't too great on metal. It works better on plastics.

because u touch yourself at night LMAO!! :D This is why we dissect things, before throwing them away. Everyone should have a box of odd sized screws, bolts, springs, and things that you're not sure what they are, but they COULD be useful someday. ;) :D
