A buddy brought over this old Dell Optiplex GX1 because it won't even power up. It's a slot 1 p/// 600 and all the pci slots are on a sub board that slides in the bottom into one slot on the mobo. Truthfully, it's the funniest looking thing I've ever seen.:p But basically, I can't even find a cmos jumper on it. When I connected the power cord to it, the leds on the mobo are lit, but when I hit the power button, it does nothing. So, does anyone here know anything about these things? I'm going to start tinkering around with it by checking the power leads with my multimeter, but I could really use some advice on this one...

Btw, like I said, I can't find the cmos jumper, but did find a "bios" jumper... I tried it, but nothing.

See if you can find that manual online or a spec sheet. They usually have it online somewhere on the dell website.

Also, if you have tried this disconnect everything expect the Video Card, Ram, Cpu and Mobo and see if it will poer on then. Also make sure everything is plug in properly (commen sense really).

Anthoner thing you might do it take everything out and just put back in the above stuff I mentioned .

Also try moving the ram to another slot ....

These might help ....

Failing that then I'd start swapping things unless you find something wrong with the voltages ....

Thanks for the help Torment. Btw Welcome to the forums :)
It appears from their site and from what I can make of this mobo that there's no cmos clearing jumper :( Everything (video, audio, lan, etc...) in this thing is onboard, except the 56k modem. I'm just going to have to start tracing all the power leads w/ the multimeter, hopefully the psu tests out ok. From there, the only other thing I think it might be is either the mobo or the power button. I'll eventually figure it out. It's really not all that pressing of an issue, since I just built the guy a new p4 system. I was just going to try to repair this one for the hell of it. ;) Can't stand to see a computer go to waste.
