There need to be rules for stability... and those A64 results aren't comparable with NF2, i875 etc.

no idear... there are many many diferent bh5 steppings, i think they changed it every few weeks or even every week.

its ok imma add it as 5e :) just wanted to make sure its 5e and not se wich looks almost the same but would make more sence still all other codes ive seen have two letters in the end.

The board very likely hits its limits there... (APIC, stable voltages, cooling)

My BH-5:

im not really sure. i wouldnt say its too stable up in that range. just say 256 3dmark, no known stable. i dont think i ever got a good 110% stable point above 250.... 250 worked alright. i need to get that ram back, a friend if barrowing it, we traded and i have his corsair bh5(double sided, its good, but DOUBLE FREAKIN SIDED!!)

There are rumours that 256MB INFINEON PC2700 'USA' modules are made with Relabled winbond BH-6 memory, cause the chip looks 100% the same als CH-5,BH-5,BH-6 chips.

And...

The performance of those sticks are AWEsome :slobber:

I had 2x 256MB INFINEON PC2700 'USA', they do 250MHz 2-2-2-5 @3.3v.

At stock voltage (2.6v) they can run 200MHz @2-2-2-5.

Looks like Winbond performance...

Can someone confirm that they are BH-6 or Infineon memory chips.

2 stick of Kingston HyperX3200, both using BH5, stepping: 315WE. Click here (http://home.arcor.de/darki-pics/Closeups/BH5.JPG) for pic.
One of the sticks does 250Mhz 11-2-2-2 with 3.24V (haven't tested stability though), but the other one kicks me back to desktop at 244ish MHz 11-2-2-2 3.24V. Highest I've tested for stability is 240MHz 11-2-2-2 with 3.2V, haven't tested 241-242. Gonna play more with my ram soon though (after a 3.3V rail mod:D )

2 sticks of 256M TwinMOS PC3200, stepping 23020. 246 stable, 256 unstable on DFI Infinity, 3.3v and 11-2-2-2 generic settings.

2 sticks of 512M Buffalo PC3200U, stepping 314WE. 245 stable, 250 unstable on DFI Infinity, 3.3v and 11-2-2-2 generic settings.

2 Sticks of 256M Kingston KHX-3200, supposedly BH5 or CH5, stepping 0306 P01/D328DW-45, 246 stable, 258 unstable in DFI Infinity, 3.3v and 11-2-2-2 generic settings.

I've never tried lax timings so these might go much higher if I did so. All 6 sticks run 3.3v 24/7 and have all run at max volts for the boards I had. The oldest sticks are the TwinMOS and have been at 3.2v or higher since I bought them in November, 2002.

i did some more research on the manufacturing process of the diferent chips, and this is what i found:

AH-6 0.180µ
BH-6 0.166µ
CH-6 (doesnt exist?)
AH-5 (doesnt exist?)

I think I've got a new goal here. It says: Find some AH-6 RAM and give it 4V VDimm. If BH-5 can take upto 3,6V without damage, then the AH-6 should easily stand 4V.
It would really be interesting to see what they would do with such a high voltage.

I have a unique stick of mushkin pc3500 level one
It has bh5 chips ;)
Its a 512 stick and on the pcb it says:

18-15180A-NL
REV A

and the bh5 stepping is 320WF on one side, and 319WF on the other

Is this weird to have two different steppings?

Forgive me if this is normal, but I didnt see any in this thread like this.

Well right now I'm limited SOMEHOW at 225fsb with my setup (no matter the timings I cant get higher so I'm pretty sure it aint the ram) with 2-2-2-11 vdimm=3.3rail

I did post about my level one being bh5 at the mushkin forum and got this reply:

when we do large batch tests some modules do not pass at the timings common to that modules, due to variable chip potential. instead of tossing these modules out we test them at the next step down and see if they'll work as that kind of module. it sounds like you got a modules meant for a bh-5 level 2 but that it could not pass as such and was chosen a level 1 instead. this module might be able to run past level 1 spec but it probably won't reach level 2. it does tell you that you should always test your modules out to see what they are capable of. who knows, maybe you've some chips that can scream a little faster than normal under those heatsinks

Yes, what else could he say, but I duno if its true. I couldnt run 200fsb 2-2-2 with 2.6v before, but I couldnt test anything under 200fsb with 2.6v and I didnt have any higher vdimm to try. I did get into windows though, but it would crash after heavy load for awhile. Mushkin alows like 2.75v anyways.
My thoughts where that this was just an old stick prior to using ch5 in production.

340WF

it does 210 2-2-2-11 dc, tested on a vdimm-modded nf7-s 2.0 and a lanparty revb.
clocks the same at 2.9v and at 3.3v, fan cooled.
this is the the worst pair of bh5 i've ever seen, none of these sticks alone will do no more than a few mhz above 210.

There were many double sided khx3500 bh-5 (dunno, but IMO even all of them), corsair's 256MB sticks were also double sided... the chips are on both sides to "spread" the heat better and "reduce noise"

He's right, some KHX sticks were double sided, mainly the 3500, followed by the 3000 and some minor 3200...

have some question guys please help me out...

how does bh-5 overclock at different vdimm and timings ?

my khx3000/512 so far works like this:

215 2-2-2-5 2.8v
220 2-2-2-5 2.9v

how much to expect on 3-3.1-3.2-3.3-3.4-3.5v etc ?

can bh-5 run like 2.5-3-3-11 at 280MHz or more ?

saaya
10-05-2004, 02:45 PM
bh5 usually doesnt overclock higher with lose timings. all the bh5 i tested only oced 5mhz higher with 2.5-3-3 compared to 2.0-2-2 at MOST! ive heard about different stories, but i think in those cases the chipset was limiting them and couldnt run 2.0-2-2 anymore.

bh5 usually gets 2-6mhz from each .1v you give it more. its scales almost linear :) thats why everybody loves it that much :D

if you got 5mhz from 2.8 to 2.9 then you should keep getting 5mhz for every extra .1v you add until the memory maxes out. some does that at 3v some doesnt even stop up to 5v, yepp thats right, 5v vdimm :D dont ask me how long them chips lived but they lived long enough to get some incredible benchmark results :D

if you want to know more ask cpulloverclock :)

so if all goes well you should get

225 3.0
230 3.1
235 3.2
240 3.3
245 3.4
250 3.5

wich is like the average bh5 ive personally owned but 10-20mhz below the average bh5 according to thise database :)

i really doubt its the memory dude, like i wroe earlier in this thread, if 2.5-3-3 gives you more than a 5mhz boost over 2-2-2 its most likely the chipset that cant run 2-2-2 at the high speed and not the memory. bh5 doesnt gain a lot of speed from going from 2-2-2 to 2.5-3-3, on some sticks i had the difference was 1mhz.

well i checked out my mushkin pc3200level2's today. but i found something very wierd. on the front of each module there is 314we, but on the back there is 313we. whats up with that? why would mushkin use different bh-5 on the same sticks? these are supposed to be a dual channel kit. i'd post pics but i need batteries for my digi cam(damn things bleeds em dry.) anyways i dont know how your going to incorporate this into your list. maybe as some kind of hybred mutant bh-5? :p: anyways i can run 11-2-2-2-2.0-2-3-3-3-3-3-4-e-e-f-e dual channel at 260fsb with 3.34vdimm(measured from mosfet). but wierd thing is i can only boot at these timmings and fsb with bios caching enabled, even though when its disable i get bsod that says disable it. oh well. anyways my board is a china infinity and a mobile 2600.

and like you said saaya, when i disable cpc or loosen the mem timmings, or switch to dual channel i can run quite a bit higher fsb. so it might be nb issue? my nb is watercooled and i run 1.9vdd, and ive tried all the vagp too it case it has a quirk with vagp and the nb like some other mobos. and im using hell fires 3eg rev3 bios.

no its quite normal to have mixed chips on one stick as i mentioned earlier in this thread. a stick always clocks as high as the worst chip on it (weakest link in the chain) so i always added both the chips codes to the database with the result as both of the steppings clock to what your stick does (or higher, but we dont know what stepping clocks higher...)

and 260 is very nice... it could just be your nb maxing out... 260 is stable right?

It's not a DFI but an Infinity-problem!!! Had exactly the same probs with all my Infinities... so it sounds very familiar.

How much worse does 512 sticks clock, in general?

saaya
10-09-2004, 12:38 PM
hmmm hard to say... 512mb sticks have double the amount of chips, and the stick only clocks as high as its slowst worst ocing chip will oc (weakest link in the chain), so the chance to have a bad chip on a 512mb sticks that holds you back is much bigger on a 512mb stick than on a 256mb stick...

so you can have a 512mb stick that clocks just as well as a 256mb stick... but in general they clock 5-10mhz worse i think.

The now run @ 246x10 @ 3.0v prime stable,is that good or normal for those sticks, the have run @ 255x10 @ 3.1v but not prime stable yet;),pifast was good as you can see overhere (http://users.telenet.be/RocKer/A64%203200%200426UPMW/Pifast/Pifast-2550mhz.JPG) ,on 2500mhz i run superpi at 36sec (http://users.telenet.be/RocKer/A64%203200%200426UPMW/SuperPi/SuperPI.JPG) .

Is that an ok score, its my first one with my new a64 3200+,and if you have any tips that woot by nice,a can use the :help: .

Ure timings now are 2.5-3-3-10 , u must set them @ 2-2-2-5 for the best performance , u may need some more vdimm ;)

I now, just starting with oc;),i have to learn this dfi board its very different as an 8rda3+ so have patience it will come, its no problem to give more vdimm now with the OCZ 520w,just a turn on the pot and viola its at 3.4  and higher.

Will do some more testing, and those heatspreaders are coming off saaya,be sure of that :p: ,you calling me a chicken :stick: wait and see, sweet sweet revenge ;) .

nono, thats not what i meant. i mean did you try them in alone? only one stick, to see if one of them clocks higher. its very unlikely that both did exactly 260 and im making an entry for every stick, so id prefer to have more accurate numbers :)

I tested the two only, it is the same chip (0313we), on my DFI, I arrived has 260mhz a 3.3v max benchs with one or two stick. I cannot test the new ones, I is not any more motherboards in good condition

try the 4 phase power mod, theres a thread in xtreme mods where a guy soldered a 4th power phase to the board, this stabilizes vcore, maybe its unstable vcore that makes the cpu unstable at a high fsb?

read the stepping! 2330D!

i have some results for bh5 with 2332D and similar steppings if you look at the database! i didnt know what to do with those steppings as i wasnt sure what week they are. could it be those were bh4 dies relabeled as bh5?

lets assume winbond made a small series of bh4, but it was too expensive to make it in a large series and the memory manufacturers didnt realize the potential of the chips (it was before the bh5 hype) and thougt the chips were too expensive, so winbond still had this small series of bh4 chips. so what were they going to do with it? throw them away? maybe they used some of them and relabeled them as bh5 to be able to sell them?

the overclocks obtained with those chips are not that spectacular, but remember it was very early bh4! so it could be true... what do you think?

kingston 240 cpc off 2-2-2-7

READ! :P those are stable ocs. some might not be 100% stable, but they are 99% stable (some are superpi stable, some are prime95 blend stable, some are memtest stable.)

read the first lines on top, i told everybody to only post stable overclocks and recommend people to run prime95 blend and a game at the same time as its a very quick way to test the stability and make sure its at least 99% stable.

Mkay, I have 2x512s of Mushkin L2 PC3500 here. Both are 338WF, one does 255 stable and the other does 258 stable, on 3.2v, when run individually. :D They have quite a bit of burn-in time @ 3.2v I really need to get a better PSU, that I can crank the 3.3v rail on, or pick up an OCZ Booster.
