View Full Version : scsi good/bad for oc/benching

i was thinking of buying an scsi controller and card to use for an os only drive.
What do you guys think ? better/wrose?
i know it would be faster the ata133 not by that much. but what im worryed about is it it would limit my oc'n... :|

Well, it's a pci card, and there is a chance it may not like a high FSB w/ the increased PCI speed.

well ill have a 1600+, so unless i buy new ddr my highest fsb will range around 170. i tryed 175 and windows pooped on me.
So it sucks having money. i dunno what to buy. But i want everything i see. Esp the shinny things :)

Depends on the drive. But yes, the fastest drives out there right now are scsi. So you will see better performance.
I'm just not fond of it myself.

well i was gonna get a scsi drive. But now im looking toward a KD7 and some pc3500 :)

Alot of the newer SCSI adapters are made to run in the newer 64 bit PCI slots, or the standard 32 bit slots. Some are designed to run @66mhz vs. 33mhz. My raid controller is the 66mhz flavor, and has run in the 210 fsb range, but that was all my system could do, the card was fine. I've also had the standard adaptec 29160 at this speed also using the 1/4 divider...
