I am looking to buy an ecs k7s5a and flash it with an overclocking bios.
Then i need a processor.

But i want a certain stepping with a certain letter.
And a certain type of ram that works with a k7s5a.
whats the best stepping / core (Tbred or Palimino) for
1600+? I think its agoia y?
1700+?
1800+?
1900+?
2000+?
2100+?
2200+?
2400+?
And which is the biggest bang for its buck, excluding the 1600+ which i know is a deal. Can everyone please include like the letter? like agoia y model or whatever.

Tanks, (my first post)
Only a 12 year old lol....

Hello there,

I know you said excluding the 1600+ what the best bang for buck would be, but you really can't compare any other palomino to the 1600+. The stepping that has proved itself as the best OCer is the AGOIA Y-13(week 13). If you're going for a higher clock speed and can afford one then the 2400+ does look nice. It has a much lower price than the 2600+ and supposedly can overclock to almost the same speeds. I think [H] got there's to 2.5ghz.

Shray - ive experimented with the K7S5A, and believe me m8 its not worth it. Even with the overclocking bios. Using the same bios (ocworkbench in origin) I could run 150fsb max stable. Then after 2 months the board died, accompanied by 2 hdds and a soundcard. Its just not designed to overclock.

Youre much better off picking up something like a KR7a or even a KG7. They can both be had for very little at the moment as theyve long since been replaced. Dont waste your time and money on ECS m8.

CPU wise id say go for an XP1600. Dont get too caught up on the stepping code, just make sure you get a Y or K chip. AGOIA would be a good start, but ive had some stunning chips that were AGKGA as well. Just goes to show luck is 9/10 of the law for overclocking :).

Shray, 1st off, Welcome to the forums! :)
2nd, Listen to these guys, they do know what they're talking about. The K7s5a is garbage! Abit is one of the top performing manufacturers right now, and both those boards suggested are much better than the Ecs. If you've got some money to burn, you might even want to consider the Msi K7d master ;) (just kidding) Read around some, you can learn alot here. :)

Indeed, I must agree that the K7S5A is NOT for overclocking. However, its a very nice board at stock speeds, if you want a very stable board for very little money this ECS board is an option.

Will agree with what has been said so far. And a 1600+ from a place like Newegg is the way to go. They sell them so fast that they always have new CPU's in stock :)

And they are even currently advertising them as "AGOIA cores" :D

Mine k7s5a died for no apparent reason as well.

But I'd go with a 1600. DaGooch has his to 2083mhz.
