Yeah, couldn't wait.
It's a CAABC, oem like week 10 SPMW ?? Something like that?
SO what's the hot setup for SK8V BIOS? Am looking for the Corsair 3500 reg stuff too.
Which BIOS?? Will pick up a x800 pro this week if BB gets it in, too. And when I had my FX-51/SK8N I never really benched past 230, will the SK8V go to 260? And do i need a Promise tx150 controller??

awesome, wish i was rich. can't wait to see some benchmarks. i don't think the FX-53 would benefit much from 939 anyways, since there is minimal difference between single channel socket 754 A64 3400+ in gaming performance. the SK8N is what i would have gotten instead tho. i like Nforce chipsets better than VIA. because of more features.

I HAD a Sk8N....they are horrible I struggled to a 28.7K score, with enough CPU power to hit 29.5K... but that was back in 8/03. Figure, what the heck... can't bench a new x800/6800U with a XP-M Mobile Barton, lol... and it's been much too long since i've been sniffing ethanol fumes and burning my fingertips purple :D

Darn man. Couldn't you've picked up a nForce 3 250 or K8T800 PRO with locked PCI freq's? Those nForces really do upwards of 300 on the "FSB"!

i dont think any nforce 3 250's or k8t800 pros have been released for 940 sockets yet, if someone has a link to any resources that has review or for sale, toss them up as options, i got a bit of a project i wanna try out, sorry for the hijack charlie, lemme know what fsb u hit with that sk8v, highest i've hit on sk8n was 250, 5:4 though sadly =(

I know exactly what your talking about. I think it was a good idea to go via with this. There isnt a big difference in between the chipsets except the faster hypertransport on the vias. I know alot of people hate via now because of the athlon xp motherboard blunders. However no one has really pushed a via board for an athlon 64. I think and was a great choice and i cant wait to see the results!

The SK8N isn't really THAT bad of a mobo....it's just that the early BIOS'es were TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! Remember, I was like the second or third, along with xgman and Caprid to get the 940/FX...in 9/03. But as we all see, Opp, Holck, et al. are using SK8V and doing well with it! Hey guys, which BIOS?????

I'm guessing 939+NF3/250 boards retail availability around mid-late June. So, about 6 weeks of playing with FX again...then sell it for a small loss. Gotta have SOMETHING to mate with an x800Pro

Good luck with the chip AND board, charlie. :) Me, I'm waitin on Fedex. Funny thing, newegg showed all my stuff EXCEPT the refurb mobile A64 3200+ shipped yesterday, and the chip shipped out today. All I can figure is, they musta sold the chip outta my cart, and had to figure out how to replace it. (?) I don't imagine too many get sent back, so maybe they just threw me a new one, OEM of course. ;) We'll see. Yeah, even tho I went socket 754, it does look like the VIA chipset has better potential.

Nice your going back to FX.

Use the bios 1001.013

The SK8V can go to 250-260 depending of the grafx and mem.
My corsair 3500 can go 2-6-2-2 FSB 261 3.4volt. But my new FX53 seems 242 is better?
Do the voltmods on Core and Mem, look in voltmodsektion. Oppainter have made the memmod. I have made the coremod.
You can go 3.25 volt on the mem, if you mod the 3.3voltline on PSU, you will get 3.6 or higher.
The MAX corevolt is 2.112Volt DO NOT GO SO HIGH. Then you need cooling you now :D

The ATA and raid don't work at high FSB You'l have to use plain IDE HDD or PCI card controller as Oppainter did.

:toast:

I'm also waiting for a new grafx;)

:D

the best time for an AMD system is 4'43, Intel is the first with 4'33 thanks to MEMESAMA and his 2.8A.

I always wait, no motivation?

Welcome back to the 940 club Charlie. Tom says 1001.013? Most are uisng 1002 final or 1002.020 now. Vdim mod is a must. Just note if you do the vdim mod and use the 1002 bios, don't set the performance to "turbo". Leave it at Auto, It overvolts the ram to get stuck at 3.25 foir some reason no matter what you set it to otherwise. good luck! I am looking forward to the Via 940 boards with pci/agp locks.

Well I decided build a system with the FX-53/SK8V like Charlie's. Ram is the Corsair TWINX1024RE-3500LLPT. This system will just be air cooled for the moment. I've got the latest bios ready to go, other than that are there any particular tips I should be aware of before I get started in a few hours (just waiting on FEDEX)? I've read through yuri's thread as well as the long one on abxzone.

BTW, the case is the new Lian Li PC-V1000 that anandtech reviewed a couple of weeks ago.

Yah, nice case, if I used water-cooling, that would def be on my short list. I decided on the Antec P160, and I drilled the rivets out & removed the drive cage, for WAY better airflow, the day it came in. Got my mobo, heatsink & RAM yesterday, just need Fedex to drop off my chip. :) Only bummer, it's NOT the K8T800 Pro chipset, like I thought. :( I'll probly just upgrade later.
