The IT-7 max is an Intel board my friend:)

If you were to get a new generation Abit board..either the KD7-Raid or AT7Max 2 would be choices that support the new cpu's.:)

or if you want one without the problems of the KT400 boards try the KX7-333

and if it's the KX7 generation, MAKE SURE it's rev. 1.1. The 1.0's will not support xp2200+ and up without the L3 trick, and then you'll be stuck with multipliers less than 13.

isn't there a bios update that makes it work with 2200+ - 2600+ ?

I talked to ABIT about this a couple of weeks back after receiving a Rev 1.0 board. A bios update will only work for revision 1.1, and even then they couldn't confirm it would work with the 2400, 2600, and up because they haven't had the opportunity too test 'em. I would bet a bios update is all it needs for the newer chips on the rev. 1.1 board. If it will work for the 2200 I'm sure there won't be a problem since it's already operating with the higher multipliers.

As for the revision 1.0 boards, they will not work with just a bios update. You have to do the unlock trick and then your stuck with multipliers below 13. I'm curious what the modification is that ABIT performs to make the boards recognize the higher multipliers? Is it something anyone with a bit of knowledge could do? Of course they won't say. Anyone know?

Thanx all,

I have the It7 max for my p4 2.66, but thought I could scimp, by just bios flashing my kr7a for the new xp 2400 that I ordered. Silly me. Abit is not building any newer bios's for the kr7a to support anything newer. So, I guess I'm either stuck with an xp2000+ for that board, or I trade up and go for a newer board like the AT7- max. It's just that I've seen so many problems with the AT7 boards. Did they have a new and improved AT7 max2,
Or should I avoid this one?? I don't need any on board stuff, just want a high FSB, fire breathing, stable board for my older Vapochill.

Before you give up on the KR7A board, read this thread where we are on track to determining how to make it work with the revision B tbreds (maybe):

We already know you can make a 2200+ work at up to 12.5X and then be able to up the FSB, but a recent post on our forum seems to detail the board mods and how to modify the cpu to boot. Has not yet been verified. If the person posting is correct (may be an insider helping us from Abit), then all you need to do is cut the L1 #3 and #4 bridges to get it to run at fixed multiplier (and maybe still be able to up the FSB!) Care to be our guinea pig with your new XP2400????

If the pictures don't show up when you link, refresh the page

If the pictures don't stay on that site, then I can e-mail them to your admin to post here if you have web hosting capabilities. Again, let me caution that we have not been able to verify the bonafides of the person who posted this, but they sure sound like they know what they are talking about.

For those still reading this thread, I tried the XP2200 in my Kr7A raid board version 1.0 with L3 #5 bridge closed as recommended, but it would not post with bios 9N.
