I'm in the middle of reviewin the OCPC Atlantis Geforce4 block... and run into a prob.
I figured for a fair review of overclocking benefits of the block to set everything else back to stock...

CPU @ 133x12.5
MEM @ 166 Aggressive Cas.

Card used is Leadtek GF4 Ti4200 MyVIVO... Thermaltake bluespikies on the ram, the ocpc block on the gpu. No voltmods.

So...
GPU250 - MEM445 (Default) = OK
295-500 = OK
310-520 = OK

As soon as I take the GPU any higher the Det40.71's kick in with that stupid freezeframe thang, and I don't know if it's affecting the bench results etc. Is this just the drivers, or is it their way of informing me that the card is maxing out? I was hoping to get it higher than this... any info anyone can give would be gr8...

I'm not going for full on tweaks etc here, just want to get the GPU as hi as poss with this waterblock...

Unfortunately...this is the problem I was suffering with my Ti4600 and the 40.41 drivers before I gave up benching with it. For whatever reason..the 40.xx drivers cause this freeze/release anomolie at certain Mhz on these cards...a once rock solid overclock on my card became totally unusable with the 40.41's. It was such a handicap that I could not overcome it and gave up.

SO, I'm not going for scores here... will downgrading to the Detonator 30's get rid of the problem? I just want to get max mhz out of the gpu for the review on the waterblock...

right... got the 30.82 drivers on...
Now, correct me if I'm wrong but is it the case that at the point where the 30.x drivers would normally lock up the system, the 40.x drivers start frame spooling to get you thru to end without locking... basically, the 30.82's locked at exactly the same point where the freezeframe began...

Thats not necessarily the case marci:)

When running the 29.40's with Win2000 I could run solidly at 384Mhz. I have never run the 30.xx driver so can't comment, but with the 40.xx I was in the 360's...low 370's would freeze and release. Going back to the 29.40's had me completing 3DMark at 384Mhz...but at a considerable drop in scores.

exactly what happens to me ;)

only when Gpu is unstable the freeze and release ocurrs , with non 40.** a lock up would ocurr

My experiences have been the same as MrIcee's. Nothing seems to overcome the "feeze/release" issue on the 40.41s or 40.71s. Like MrIcee I also went back to the 29.42 WHQL drivers. I can get the most out of my Ti 4600 with those drivers using an 80w pelt. I found that I could overclock a little higher, without freezing, than I could with the 40.71s where the freeze/release began....but not by much...about 5-8mhz if I recall.

yes but you guys have to consider one thing

even if the drivers 29.** allow a higher gpu OC for 3dmark it doesn´t mean the gpu is on a stable OC , as you guys know the new drivers seem to take more advantage of the GPU thus much higher scores in dragotic and nature

so the new drivers will lock and release when the gpu is on a real unstable OC

it´s bad for 3dmark in a way but they perform much better so it compensates the score (not on top competition) :(

but im loving the new 40.71 in ut2k3 :P

Hey guys, the 40.52 Dets worked like a dream for me with my last bench. Faster than the other two 40.xx's and not one problem with lock and release or stabilty.
