I am in the process of trading my modified xbox to a guy for a lightly used 2 week old Prometeia Mach I. Is this unit a good buy for the system in my sig? I know the Mach II's are the current units, but I cannot afford such extravagance at 19. Are there any guides or helpful suggestions as far as installing or using this behemoth once I receive it?

Thanks

Well if you don't wanna go through with the deal, i'll let 'em have an Xbox and PS2 that's sitting in a drawer of mine..hehe. But seriously, the install is pretty straight forward. Make sure you have the proper mouning kit from Nventiv for your PIV, since A64 and socket A are different. All the insulation precaustions should be taken care of with the stock mounting hardware. Here's a link to Nventiv's web page with PDF's of their product manuals Mach I (http://www.nventiv.com/index.php?pageid=82) . You should expect around -16 celcius idle and sub zero under load. GL.

Yeah he said it comes with the s478 mount and everything that came in the box but the manual.

The Mach-I is good enough for the system you have.. Installing is indeed described in the manual, but keep in mind that the mach-I can have problems with modern motherboards, the reset issue.
The Mach-I holds the reset-signal until the temperature is low enough to let the system start. Some modern motherboards are incompatible with this method.

But this can be solved using a separate powersupply for the mach and manualy start the system when the temperature dropped under a certain temperature (-33 degrees by default).

I have a spare 550w psu laying around, so thats no problem.

What are the limits of the Mach I? How high on the vcore will I be able to go? Also, do you think the Mach I can handle a 4ghz+ P4C?

Can anyone here recommend a place in the US that sells inexpensive seal string?

One last question, do I use Arctic Silver Ceramique or is there some other thermal compound better suited for below 0 temps?

Ceramique and Artic Silver 3 have both worked well for me :D Seems to be very little real difference between them imo

I'm having a hell of a time finding that 2229 stuff. I heard butyl tape works well, but I can't find that either. Can someone lead me in the right direction? I'd like to get it locally so I can get up and running tomorrow.

I've seen that link, but they say glazing tape doesn't work right. The butyl tape is supposed to be at NAPA, but I went there and they said they don't carry it anymore. I went to Home Depot and they only had 3M 2228 Mastic Tape. I didn't buy it because I don't think it's the same thing.

www.wwgrainger.com most electrical suppliers have the stuff... you need to find a supply house that has the option to order suplies for you.. It is not always a stock item/

any car parts store should have the seal string.
its made by 3m part #08611 its 5/16' so just roll it a bit like making a snake out of playdough to make it thinner or its just wasted. i got mine at car quest.
the butyl tape is like tar and very nasty, makes your fingers black also.
its called ribbon sealer
heres a link to it (http://products3.3m.com/catalog/us/en001/government/innovative_solutions/node_GSJB99JY5Rgs/root_GS3RBW6QFVgv/vroot_31S2JJ7584ge/bgel_GS73WTK68Qbl/gvel_67FX2GQGHFgl/command_AbcPageHandler/theme_us_innovativesolutions_3_0)

Just picked up some butyl tape from a auto glass repair place.
It's the exact same stuff that comes with the mod kits but is 1/4".
The stuff I got is not like tar and does not make your fingers black.
Got a 20' roll for $8 Can.!!!! Work awsome and is less than a 1/3 of the price they sell it for at Kit-Tronics up here in Canada.

If you guys really need some let me know. I can pick some up and ship it out for the cost of the string + shipping when I have time.

Cheers!

I found 3M 08612 at Advanced Auto Parts. It's the same as the 08611 but it's 3/8". Is there a guide to applying this stuff? It looks like thick, black, sticky play dough.

I hooked it up to my pc and turned it on with the pc off to check for condensation. It started getting colder, and then the lcd started saying P1. What does that mean?

I restarted the unit, and now it won't get cold. It stays at 8.2-8.4C.

Nobody can help? It was working yesterday, and worked for a bit today, but now it won't cool.

Both fans are running on high. I'm going to let it sit overnight to see if that helps.

The compressor is turning on. I can hear it power up and it is burning hot to the touch. The cooling head REFUSES to get cold though. What is going on here? It was working fine yesterday, and nothing has changed.

The consensus over at the ocforums is that my gas leaked out. What next?

Everyone's first uneducated guess is always refrigerant. It ain't necessarily so. Does the compressor actually run, or does it hum and then click off on the overload?

I can't afford to get it fixed, so I'll probably ust sell it :( .
