I recently bought an external Lite-On LDW-851SX (USB2.0). With the cheapest 4x DVD-R media I could buy, the burn session took 15 minutes, but the DVD-R didn't work on my crappy Creative 12X DVD-ROM.
I decided to buy some high-end Pioneer and Ritek DVD-R 4x media. Strangely, the burns took 1 hour and 20 minutes on both brands of media! :( I've tried many burns with the same result. The DVD-Rs work with my DVD-ROM drive, but I can't take the huge trade-off with the really slow write times.
I then proceeded to try the burner on another computer. The other computer allows the burner to burn the quality media in 15 minutes! Any idea what the problem is on my computer?

My comp: specs shown below+
Maxtor 40 GB, WD 120 GB (primary channel)
Creative 12X DVD-ROM, Lite-On 52X CDRW (secondary channel)
Windows XP SP2
Nero 6302 (no multisession), 4x burn
Other comp: Athlon XP 2000+ @ 2200 MHz, ASUS A7N8X-E Windows 2000
Maxtor 80 GB (primary)
Generic 52X CD-ROM, Lite-On 52X CDRW (secondary)
Nero 6302 (no multisession), 4x burn
Is it reformat time?!
