Well I would recommend an athlon fx on the 939 socket (will be out in a month or two). But if your deadset on intel. First of all the tejas is scheduled for last quarter of this year. That means it will probably get pushed to first quarter next year. The only real decision is do you want top of the line technology now? Or in 6 to 9 months?

if you want to spend enough for a p4 ee, you might as well get an AFX 53 or wait for s939. the FX-53 will own the 3.2 ee in most cases.

screw it. im oredring either a 3.4ee or a 3.2ee.

In that case it depends on the ram you have basically. How high FSB will you reach with that CPU and is your ram limiting you...At 4GHz the fsb of 3.4 is 235 and with 3.2 its 250.

The newegg refurbs on the EE are good deals, there is no substitues for an EE.

The next generation XE should be as strong as current EE but with a lot more headroom for overclocking.

I am not sure if the XE will be in socket 478 when it is released or just planned for socket 775.

I will try to find out more Monday

are next gen p4 xe's just gonna be on a 90nm process/LGA 775? or are they turning the xe's into prescotts with 2mb L2?

A prescott with 2MB of L3 and 1MB of L2

The Prescott datasheet says it can have up to 4MB L3

My original 3.2EE that I bought last October is still in my main rig. This is longest I've kept a simgle CPU in one of my main boxes. It kicks that much AZZ.

Although I'll be going 939 pin FX in about 8 weeks, the EE will find its way into my daily multimedia rig.

Ehem....does the Pope     in the woods?
(That means you can bet your bippy that I'll grab one in no-seconds FLAT.)

prescott xe's?

so basically, they'll be able to clock higher, but they will not outperform NW EEs clock for clock?

I don't mean to imply I have an special powers when it comes to aquiring rare CPUs....just that I am willing to shell out the cash if they are for sale...

when intel added 2mb of L3 cache on the P4, it opened my eyes. wow, this chip is awesome. over 169+ million transistors, the P4 EE is one the fastest cpu available. P4EE supports frequencies of 3.2+3.4ghz, 800 mhz fsb, and hyperthreading. This coupled with Intel i865/875 chip , dual channel DDR400, and 8x agp makes the EE very formidable.

Considering the speed with which Intel has released the EE"s, we should see this new "XE" sometime around 2010...

They announced the 3.4EE with the Prescott at the beginning of February.

They are still not available (at least not outside of Dell). Why am I not surprised? The retail 3.0E is just now becoming available. That's over a two month delay from announcement.

God knows when we'll see the 3.2E and 3.4E...maybe in time for Christmas if we're really lucky...

Actually I have TWO coming this week.

The one I bought for $769 that morning, and the one I bought for $685 when I got home that evening!

Was going to cancel the first order, but then I thought to myself why not try them BOTH First :D

I'll see which one is better.

Stay Tuned for results....................

I TRIED to get 2. The second that I bought off of E-gay ended up being a total scam. I paid the guy...he shipped NOTHING. Took over 2 weeks to get my money back. USAA saves my ass again!
