ive got a 1/4hp R12 compressor....planning to run r22 with it...
my question is ...

there are 2 types of method used to make a chiller....
the:
1 . heatexchanger method
2 . evaporator in a bucket

according to my compressor....which will perform better?

any comments is greatly honoured..

Heat exchanger is much more efficient.

yeah, and gary really knows his    , it seems that the exchanger works much better because it has better contact.

Hum if exchanger is better whats the easiest way to make one? Right now my only way to do it that I'm aware of is to put my 20' coil evap into a 1 gallon sealed res... Could I un bend it and shove it into some 1/2" tubing for a coxial HX or something? Would that work?

You just can't beat a brazed plate heat exchanger for efficiency and compact size, but I'm working on it. The problem with BPHE's is they start at about $300. I will soon have a very compact chiller evap/res, which I intend to market, at a much more reasonable price. :D

Yes, 1/4" will work.

excuse my phase-chnage noobism, but what the heck is a heat exchanger?

A heat exchanger (HX) is a setup of whatever that is filled with two liquids using one to remove heat from the other. A coaxial HX in a chiller is tubing within larger tubing. The larger tubing is where the coolant flows while it has its heat removed by the smaller tube which is the refrigeration units evaporator.

is that what was on the compressor/condenser that was given away in the make the mods laugh competion?
