I'm upgrading my WC setup (see sig) to use 1/2" tubing. But to do so, i need to replace many fittings. I found this barb which i can easily get a hold of:

It has 1/4" thread (which is what DD blocks use right? ...BUT uses 12mm barbs (measured from the inside i think as seen in picture ...according to the site) will this fit my 1/2" tubing? ...dont wanna order the wrong thing. [site: www.rs-components.com part #: 367-6262]

12mm is just a little under a 1/2" so my guess is that it would probably work.

i'm afraid that is a 1/4" BSPP fitting and i believe that DD blocks use the american NPT standard (best to e-mail them to check) so they won't fit (and/or would strip the threads on the blocks...) :(

Probably won't dethread unless you really drive them in there, but they definitely won't fit if they are indeed different fittings.

Also your 1/2" ID tubing will be loose on the 12mm.

That 12mm measurment was taken from the inside of the fitting according to his first post.

argh. Well i changed my order to only 5. Cuz i can still use em on my reserviour and im gonna mod my BIX to use them. I will order special barbs for my DD z-chip. I measured a spare 1/2" barb from my eheim 1250 ...and the inside of it is also 12mm (actually slightly less) ...so these are 1/2" ones. They just make it confusing :(

Ah, gotcha... sorry, should have read instead of just looking at the purty pictures. :D

since im modding my reserviour and Radiator...i need to tap the holes myself.

If im using new fittings that use 1/4" NPT threading ...what kind of tapping tool would i need? and what size?

there are so many to chose from: ISO metric taps, UNF taps, BSP, HSS taps, DIN metric

BSP

NP

you will find it much easier to use BSP (which are the norm everywhere that uses the metric system) since you are not in the US.....
