I wish I could go more into it, but we're ready to go out for the night. So, I'll just leave a WCPUID shot of the highest I could get her so far(locked yet)...
This is my 4th 1600+ and I must say I'm very pleased so far :)

Yea, it is the first chip I've recevied to whoop up on my very first 1600+(the AROIA that is my avatar). It is cooled by a Thermalright AX-7 & Vantec Tornado.

Just got back from the bar so I doubt I'll make much sense here :)

Its a AGOIA 0213 Y, and I have another AGOIA 0213 Y also that won't even match my AROIA, let alone this AGOIA.

This is not a stable speed....yet. I will be happy if I can run 3DMark @ or above 2GHz :) Right now my AROIA runs 3D @ 1.9GHz pretty much flawlessly. I'm not even sure that its not my Samsung holding me back at this point as the 2815 BIOS for the 8K3A seems rather hard on the memory.

A month or so ago I bought H2O equipment...just been too busy till recently to play with it. This chip may be the motivation I needed in that department ;)

As for the temp, I don't know...no time to stress test @ this speed. All I know is that it was stable @ 1.85GHz @ default vcore, and 1.9GHz @ 1.85vcore. I can tell u what the temp was when i took that pic...about 27c w/ halt-cooling enabled, idle of course :P

Bad part is, I get about an hour to play with this chip, then I'm drug to the bar, and to top it off I'm leaving on vacation till monday...so no more playing till then! I will report back my further findings ;)

{N8} i have a new agoia-y 0213 1600+ here also. I bought two from newegg during the craze the aroia-y i currently use runs at 1970mhz prime95 stable and will bench 3dmark alnight at 2ghz+ giving me some killer scores... I use the slk-800+80mm 75cfm fan also my aroia does 1.85ghz at default voltage prime stable but takes 2.04v to hit 2ghz on air. withh some h20 or vapor this chip could do 2100mhz+, now Im thinking about trying the agoia thats sitting here:confused:

I prolly won't be runnin sandra again till after I pull it, snap some pics of the core, and unlock the thing. When I get up around 200FSB its hard to tell if instability is caused by the CPU or my Samsung PC2700. I'll report back after its unlocked.

Alphawolf829,

There are prolly 4 things that could help you get higher right now:
1) More vcore...if your cooling can handle it.
2) More vmem...if your memory can handle it, which that Corsair "should" be able to.
3) Relaxed memory timings to rule out your memory holding you back right now.
4) Unlock you CPU...makes OC'n these AMD's just that much easier.

As I said before, I will be happy if this thing runs 3D stable @ 2ghz or above, but I won't know untill I unlock it and do further testing. You have a 1/5 divider w/ that mobo so I'd guess that none of you PCI devices are holding you back right now, as you're barely out of spec. Good luck! :)

Edit: My bad, welcome to Xtreme :D

Alphawolf829
09-24-2002, 04:22 PM
well I have already tried the ram on the "fastest" speed at 2.7 and the CPU with a Vcore of 1.8 but window still died(I didn't go any higher with the voltages or any lower with the ram timings. For the amount of times I tried though I almost have the WIN98 Product Key memorized. Hmmm... Im running 170 currently but when I was at standard vmem it took longer to load, but when I increased it by .1 it loads normally again. I don't know what this means exactly.

N8
09-24-2002, 04:32 PM
Hmm, well for now I would highly recommend unlocking that CPU :)

It makes finding your max stable CPU OC so much easier ;)

Alphawolf829
09-26-2002, 03:08 PM
Hmmm... Is my problem that my clock speed got to high for the HDD or is it the FSB? I would like to know so that when I do unlock it I know whether or not to lower the multiplier and raise the FSB, or raise the Multiplier and leave the FSB.

N8
09-27-2002, 03:41 AM
I would up the mult and lower the FSB then work back up again. If u snag at 170 again, up the mult again :)

LBJGH
09-27-2002, 06:34 AM
I agree it's a pain in the ass unlocking an AthlonXP and it may be worth it depending on which model you are playing with.

I just unlocked my 1600+ and wonder if it was really necessary. The default multiplier is 10.5x and by raising the fsb to 166mhz I was able to run the chip at 1750mhz at the default voltage. I might be able to run 180mhz fsb which would give me approximately 1900mhz without changing the multiplier.

I guess the advantage to changing the multiplier is that I can use 166mhz fsb (maintaining default pci/agp speeds) and run the chip at 1916mhz. If the system is unstable with the default agp/pci then I know it's the CPU that can't cut it.

09-27-2002, 07:47 AM
Hehe...yea, there are times you will find you will end up runnin the default mult anyway...but, when you hit a wall, and you don't have another unlocked chip to test your max FSB, its nice to be able to play with the mult/fsb rather than just uppin the FSB...like if your ram is holdin ya back, or ya wanna run say 166fsb to keep your devices in spec :)

LBJGH
09-27-2002, 10:25 AM
I've actually had my memory up to 190mhz but had to use more conservative memory timing. I can run up to 170mhz at cas2.

I like to keep the pci/agp within spec so that I can determine what the CHIP will do before I add fsb to the equation.

N8

Me too, but I actually haven't pulled the CPU back out yet to unlock it due to a couple reasons. Very tuff times at work this week exhausting me...and, I have my 3 rigs folding for the team because of all the talk of hotmail on our arse :)

I will prolly do 1.85v & 2.2v...if my cooling can hang w/ 2.2v and prime. I ran my aroia @ 1900 w/ 2.2v and got around ok, but i never put it thru prime or anything w/ constant stress like that(i.e. folding).

So, right now she is sitting @ only 166FSB, default voltage, folding away. Ain't even bothered to lower the vcore any, even tho @ 1750MHz I'm sure I can. I do know that its folded for a few days now w/o any sign of errors :P

Im back on aircooling at the moment, and the highest i can get my XP2000 is 1888 @ 1.85v Prime95 stable (spent the last few days priming, flasking, and folding, and shes as stable as a rock).

Not sure if i want to plug in the Vmod tho, and feed her 2v for an additional 100mhz tho :(

Hell I bought H2O equipment a few months ago and ain't even found the time to put it on. Not sure that its gonna get me anywhere further anyway, other than perhaps a few degrees drop in load temp, and a little quieter :)

If I can get this thing stable @ 2GHz w/ whatever cooling I end up using, I'll be extremely happy w/ the chip. 600MHz OC on a $50 chip...gd I love u AMD. :D

Well the motherboard I got from my RMA was an OLDER revision and it doesn't seem to maintain the voltage properly. But that said I was able to run Prime95 for a bit before the temps started to creep up too high for my liking (64C).

Ok, its been a while but the chip is out now and I think I got it unlocked last night...won't know till I put it in tonight and find out.

Put my AROIA back in and FINALLY set up my H2O(which I bought like 3 months ago and never had the time to install) and I've got it folding & stable @ 1950MHz, 2.2vcore, 42c load...50MHz higher than I could ever stabilize it on air.

So, I'll be pullin the AROIA tonight again and putting this AGOIA back in to see what speed it stabilizes at...something over 2GHz I'm hoping...just not sure how far over :)

Here is a pic i got of it before I unlocked it so u can see the full stepping:

N8
10-16-2002, 06:36 PM
Burning in right now @ 2000MHz...prolly let this go overnight...temps a little higher than expected...not sure if its that this chip runs hotter, if some air got in the lines, or if the AS3 has yet to burn in, or a combination of all 3, but I think this is more voltage than it will take to run this speed anyway so I will just let it burn in @ this overnight :) Oh yea, the unlock worked :D
