Need some help ppl!

My Chaintech Ti4600 T61 works pretty good without Vmods(345/745),but when I applied the Vmods on the GPU(1.75V) and RAM(3.0v)using 15 turn trim pots, I STILL couldn't get any higher 3DMark scores than without the Vmods, and the artifacts still appear when going above the 345/745 settings resulting in LOWER scores!

Anybody have any suggestions that I could try?

First of all, you have the Vgpu and Vmem reversed. Vgpu should be 1.75V.

Drop the Vmem back to 2.95V or so, and use better cooling on your GPU.

sorry about that DDTUNG,I re-editted my first post!

I have tried lower voltages, but nothing seems to help even though I am using a Danger Den Waterblock on the GPU at @16c and TWEAKMONSTER Ramsinks on the Memory.

btw:GPU Temps are @20-21c (using a thermal probe) at the outside edge of the GPU.

I bet your ti4600 is using the (A2) stepping witch maxes out at 345-350... the newer (A3)'s are the ones like mine doing 380 and such... also have you tried flashing to the .28 nvidia reference bios???

hallowen

don't mean to sound dumb but I've never flashed the bios on my video card.

could you give me a link on how this is done?

Thanks

qwerty57

first do you have the a2 or a3 stepping???

hallowen
09-20-2002, 10:58 AM
Not too sure if I have an A2 or A3 stepping since I lapped the core, but from what you have told me about maxxing out at 345-350 ,I believe it's an A2 core!

qwerty57

open rivatuner and on the main page it will say ti4600(A2) or A3 also macci just told me the steeeeeepping doesn't matter on g4's

Appreciate the help, but when I look for the file under CHAINTECH it doesn't show any files for the Ti4600.

Can I use another Ti4600 file from another manufacturer?

Well, good news and bad news

I Successfully flashed to the .28 bios and got about 200 more marks on my 3DMark, but unfortunately at voltages of 2.8/2.85/2.9/2.95 on the memory,I still cannot go above 345/750 without a LOT of artifacts(which reduced my scores).

Don't think I'm doing anything wrong, but I probably reached the limit on this card(stepping problems?).

I read in an article (http://www.xbitlabs.com/video/visiontek-ti4600/) that they had the same limit problem(340-350).

Looks like I'm going to either wait for the next Geforce or get a 9700, but right now I'm going to concentrate on obtaining a P4 2.66 or 2.8!

Started off witha fresh XP Prof Install, put in the Detonator 40.41 and set voltages to 3.0(Vmem)/1.84(Vgpu) and was able to run at 370/785!:D

15554 3DMark.

Thanks to ALL who helped me!

Still need to upgrade,'cause even though I'm up there for a 2.26.....

09-26-2002, 04:47 PM
oh and use the new 40.52's 100-200 more 3dmarks.. Im happy at 16k tying for 16.3k tho..

hallowen
09-26-2002, 04:53 PM
Thanks, Man

I'll retry to install the 40.52's since for some reason when I tried to install them they would not load some of the files(mini.sys,etc....)

Don't exactly know why, never had problems loading Detonators before.

hallowen
09-26-2002, 05:16 PM
Yeah!!

Installed the 40.52's

15671 3DMark!

Gonna Try the 40.71's next.

qwerty57
09-26-2002, 05:20 PM
no the 40.71's are far worse

hallowen
09-26-2002, 05:35 PM
You Are CORRECT Sir!

40.71's REDUCED my score to 15306(YUK!!!!)

Returning to 40.52's and Tweaking some more Voltages.

I'll Be Back............................

Vmem at 3.0v/Vgpu at 2.068!

How Far Should I Go? Can anyone tell me how far they have raised the Vmem/Vgpu without S.G.D.S.(Sudden Geforce Death Syndrome!)

qwerty57

are you using a pot or fixed resistor? Ive gone to 2.09v too when I hit 380 on the core.. so take your chances...

hallowen
09-26-2002, 08:49 PM
383/795!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm using a 2k/15 turn pot on the Vmem(3.086v)/20k/15 turn pot(all I Had that was handy)on the Vgpu(2.177v).

15914 3DMark
Water temp=15.1c
GPU temp=23c (measured with a thermal probe at the base of the GPU/Waterblock)

Had to use 2.177v(Vgpu) to get the extra 3 MGHZ!

All in All,not bad for a Ti4600 on Chilled Water(15.1c) with NO PELTS!

I might try to lower the temps on my Chest Freezer more and see what happens(remember,I,m using NO insulation on my water lines/GPU/NB/CPU and the Freezer is Thermostaticaly controled 'cause I Don't Want no CONDENSATION!)

As everybody has told me:

PUSH IT 'TILL IT HURTS!

How do you flash the card BIOS? I have the Ray Adam nvbioseditor program and the BIOS you recommended, qwerty, but I can't seem to figure this program out. I am missing something. Please give some detailed help. Thanks.

qwerty57
09-28-2002, 09:27 AM
download the .28 reference bios. next open it in the rayadams bios editor and change the subsystem ID to match your card then go to dos and use the command

nvflash -f XXXX.rom

if you do this first you'll see the subsystem ID mismatch ID if you don't already know it then go into rays in windows and change it save it now you can flash the new bios. theres also a nvflash command to force it but i don't know it..

use the nvflash 4.xx

qwerty57, I just noticed your old post at Pure OC's forums concerning a ti4600 vmod. Did you follow Liquide's vmod advice? If so, what were the results?

I just noticed your old post at Pure OC's forums

when I was first going to v-mod I posted at over 20 forums, finally I just used Macci's pic's... results are in my sig. 380/795 on my ti4600 and over 16k in 3dmark with my AMD system.

Okay, here is what I have so far....I have edited the .28 ref BIOS to match my VisionTek and I have the nvflash.exe v4.15. Now I need to put the nvflash and the edited BIOS on a bootable DOS floppy and at the a:/ prompt type nvflash -f XXXXX.rom then press enter.
Is this correct? I am a bit nervous on this matter.

qwerty57
09-29-2002, 07:56 AM
thats it also put this on the dos disk

http://www.x-bios.3dgames.ru/files/other/dos4gw.zip

and thats it... don't worry it will either work or not work you won't kill anything, lol Ive done over 30 ti's this same way all worked first time :)

okay, where do I get that and I am curious about the sub devide ID, it reads 0000. Do I need to change it to 0250? The .rom file reads vtgf4600.rom is this correct?

Edit: didn't see the link before.

yes open the .28 and only change the sub device id make that match your cards. if you dont know boot up with that disk and run the nvflash -f vt4600.rom and it will give you it .... or if you know it then enter it in where you see 0000

qwerty57
09-29-2002, 08:14 AM
oh and yes the .28 is vt4600.rom :)

All right, I got to drunk last night at my wedding reception. My head is spinning and I am confused again. Tell me everything I need on the disk. Do I only need the three files? nvflash.exe, dos4gw.exe and vtgf4600.rom? And I do not need to change the vendor ID, just the sub device ID? I need to take a nap and get my head clear.

Okay, here is all that I have done. I right clicked on my floppy drive with a disk in and click format, then I checked create an MS-DOS start up disk. Then I moved the nvflash, dos4gw and vtgf4600 files to it. Am I correct in assuming I am ready to go. I can type the nvflash -f vtgf4600.rom and it will give me my sub device ID....wont this flash the BIOS on the disk? Sorry, I am totally new to gfx card BIOS flashing.

SPQQKY, I'm following qwerty57's advice and your steps exactly as we speak. I'm working on a 5th grade level :p user-friendly guide to flashing the 4600 based on the information provided in this thread.

After I post the simplified guide, qwerty57, SPQQKY, or anyone else, please add in any detailed that I had missed.

Geforce 4 Ti 4600 Flash Guide - Information provided by qwerty57 and SPQQKY. All I'm doing is typing it. :D

1. Download the 4.25.00.28.00 reference bios for the Geforce 4 Ti 4600 (http://www.x-bios.3dgames.ru/modules.php?name=X_BIOS_FileArchive&op=download&ini=1&lang=english&dir=files/nvidia/gf4ti4600&fname=vtgf4600.zip&dc=4.25.00.28.00), NVIDIA BIOS Editor v1.0 RC3 build 300 (http://www.x-bios.3dgames.ru/modules.php?name=X_BIOS_FileArchive&lang=english&dir=files/rvbedit&fdes=Ray%20Adams%20NVIDIA%20BIOS%20Editor), dos4gw DOS 32 Executable v1.73 (http://www.x-bios.3dgames.ru/modules.php?name=X_BIOS_FileArchive&op=download&ini=1&lang=english&dir=files/other&fname=dos4gw.zip&dc=dos4gw%20DOS%2032%20%20Executable%20v1.73%20(fo r%20most%20DOS%20flash%20programs)), and NVFlash 4.15 (http://www.x-bios.3dgames.ru/modules.php?name=X_BIOS_FileArchive&op=download&ini=1&lang=english&dir=files/other&fname=v4.15.zip&dc=NVFlash%204.15).

Unzip all necessary files and keep all programs in the same folder for easy access.

2. Open the vtgf4600.rom (this is the .28 bios) in Ray Adams bios editor and only change the sub device id to match that of your card's. If you know the sub device id, enter it where you see 0000.

This is where I become confused. How exactly do you find the sub device of your card if unknown? Like SPQQKY had stated, do you need all the files on the diskette?

hallowen
09-29-2002, 03:37 PM
All I did to flash my Chaintech to the .28 bios:

1) Create an XP boot disk with NOTHING ELSE on it.

2) Download and unzip the Bios file(vtgf4600.rom)

3) Download NVFLASH 4.15 and unzip(gives you two files: CWSDPMI & NVFLASH)

4) Copy the three files to ANOTHER Floppy.

5) Boot using the XP boot disk.

6)TAKE OUT the XP boot disk and replace it with the OTHER floppy that has the Three Flash Files.

7) Type: nvflash vtgf4600.rom

Thats It.

Pyro
09-29-2002, 04:37 PM
So dos4gw doesn't need to be on the boot disk and you don't need to change the sub device id to match that of your card?

qwerty57
09-29-2002, 04:41 PM
ok do this make a dos disk and put

dos4gw
nvflash
and the bios file

boot to dos and type

nvflash -f xxxxx.rom

then it should start then stop and say pci sub system mismach take that number it gives you and open the .28 reference bios file with rays and change the ID then save and do the same as above thats it....

hallowen
09-29-2002, 04:50 PM
Not trying to complicate things, I didn't use dos4gw.

all I did was use what I described, and it flashed my bios to the .28

qwerty57
09-29-2002, 04:52 PM

SPQQKY, I think I found an easier way to finding your sub device id. Open up the Nvidia BIOS editor, click on the AGP tab. It lists the sub device id right there.

SPQQKY

Okay, I just successfully flashed the BIOS. I followed qwerty57's advice and apparently my sub device ID was 0000 because it showed a match when I started the flash and then told me I was successful and I got the new BIOS information screen at reboot. Thanks everyone for your help. Xtreme forums rock.

I double clicked my computer and then right clicked the floppy icon and clicked format, I then checked create an MS-DOS start up disk, once that was done, I moved the nvflash.exe, dos4gw.exe and the vtgf4600.rom files to the disk and then rebooted. Once I got the a:/ prompt, I typed nvflash -f vtgf4600.rom and hit enter. That was it seeing as how my sub device ID was 0000, I didn't have to do any more. If your sub device ID # is different, it will give you the # just like qwerty57 said. If that happens, remove the disk and reboot and use the Ray Adams editor to change it and save. Then reinsert the disk and delete the old .rom file and replace it with the new one and then just go through the same proceedure and you should be good to go. Thank you all for the help. A vmod to my Ti4600 core and my new RAM and I should hit 15k.

The BIOS flash only gave me about a 65 point gain in 3DMark, but I have noticed that my games seem to run a little smoother. I especially notice it when playing SOF2 multiplayer. There seems to be virtually no screen tearing ever since I flashed to the reference BIOS.
