mac internet help... urgent! please help

Mom has a mac, sad I know :( . However she has a DSL line, and she has recently lost her connection. The computer is telling us that there is a tcp/ip error 3,045, and that it could not find translation extensions. It is acting like a pc would if you were to disable the network process. So is there a place I can check if this process is running (or something like that)? I dont know much about macs and she uses this for work so please if anyone could help both of us would be greatly appreciated!

go into tcp/ip settings and switch from DHCP to bootp exit and save then open browser

close browser and go back into TCP/IP settings and change it back to DHCP and save settings.

It should be working again, and if this doesnt work um, reload or try to figure out if something was loaded or changed recently.
