The other day I decided to soundproof my (wannabe)-server, I had previously glued some dampening material on the inside and the only intake fan run at 7V but it was still quite loud(mainly harddrives).

here's a short guide, to do this you will need something to soundproof with, a box, and a computer.

put the puter in the box, fill up/soundproof with foam/paper/cardboard/whatever you have at home.

Here it is in place. The result is an almost completely quiet computer, this is much more efficient than magic fleece, NoiseKiller etc. And as a bonus it looks real classy too!!! :D

Look at the price of these manufactured units , which do the same job:

You've built one for free!

If your running that as your server just bury it somewhere, connect a power cable and a Ethernet cable and do work remotely its pretty fast if your doing it over a LAN. Thats what I did with my server box put it in my furness room and worked off of it remotely from a laptop in my room. I'll take a lil laptop noise over those deafening tornado fans any day of the week:D

lol, nice work Peckers. I did this to the house server about three months ago which sits underneath my bed. Been running 24/7 since i first turned it on and i've never once heard it crunching away dispite the fact it's about 2 foot from my head every night.
