View Full Version : Epox 4t4a+ and P4

All,
In researching my next P4 rig, I came across the Epox 4t4a+ mobo, http://www.epox.com/html/motherboard.asp?product=EP-4T4Aplus&lang=1
Looks pretty cool and can use 32 bit RDRAM. Intel 850E/ICH4, USB 2.0, Firewire, and Epox stresses it's highly overclockable!
Now for CPU, I'll buy a 2.8 or next-gen later but I want to play around a bit with 533fsb .13 micron family of cpu's. (have to save $ for Prometeia)
What's the best OC'er of the gang?? Like 2.26, 2.4, 2.53, 2.6??
And what processor versions, steppings or whatever??

I'd wait on Epox's 32 bit RDRAM board. The only current 32 bit board out now is the P4T533 and there have been so many horror stories with it...I'd wait and see how Epox's solution works out first.

As far as CPU if you're going with a B0 core (everything as of now except 2.66 and 2.8 chips) the 2.26B is pretty much the chip to get. With C1 CPUs I've seen great success with both the 2.66 and the 2.8, either should do you fine.

It looks like the board gets all it's +12V power through only one pin of the 20pin ATX connector. If true that could cause problems.

Where did you find the info about the mobo power layout?
How about introducing the new IT& Max2 into the mix??

It's been discussed on the [H]ardOCP forum a bit in the huge P4T533 thread. The 4 pin +12V connector was missing in early pictures of the board, but maybe it's been added to the final release. I guess there's always the possibility that the board generates power for the P4 from +5V rather than the normal (for P4's) +12V.

Abbas at tbreak got a 4t4+ to review, and he couldn't even install the OS. Epox is sending him a new board to try. http://www.tbreak.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=10885

The Epox 4T4A is a 32-bit board. It's for the new 232 pin RDRAM.
The 2.5 has also the C1 stepping.
