View Full Version : Looking for advice, best ddr ram and mb for P4
I've always used rdram for my P4's but have gotten the urge to try ddr. I'm thinking the Granite Bay dual ddr boards will be worth trying when they become available (late October?). In the mean time I was seriously thinking about the IT7 Max2, since the IT7 seems like a good performer. I have no ddr memory so I'd like to get the best possible. Mushkin, Corsair, Samsung or other? I'd like whatever will give me the best performance and I'm not that concerned about cost. All suggestions appreciated.
Corsair...everyone seems to go ga-ga over the XMS3200C2...personally, I haven't seen anything better run at aggressive timings than Corsair.
Just remember, burn-in is important...don't expect the world from it out of the box :D

Right now, one of the best performing mobo's I've read about in my opinion is the Abit IT7. I'll have a better opinion here soon, just ordered one yesterday. Newegg has them w/ out the raid option for $135.xx

I'm getting ready to buy some DDR also and my research agrees that the XMS3200C2 is the best right now with tight timings...however I have heard rumors of a cas 2 3200 Mushkin which I cannot seem to find anywhere...not even on the Mushkin site, maybe not released yet? Anyone know? Also someone? is supposed to release some 3500 soon?:D Thanks

Go to www.lostcircuits.com and hit BBS(forums). Under memory you can post and ask MS about the Mushkin.

Got the IT7 and I love it.
Memory is a stick of 512 MB Corsair PC3200 C2, running @ 232 Mhz, 2-7-3-3, 2.9V, Enhanced memory performance ON. Gonna run memtest for a couple of hours to see if it's 100% stable at that speed.

My XMS3000 512 stick does the exact same speeds and timings ate same volts.....pretty good sticks these Corsair arnt they....:banana:

I've got an IT7 with Mushkin PC3200 and Corsair XMS3200 C2 RAM.
The Corsair like the stricter timings below 200MHz. It can do around 187MHz @ 2-5-2-2 with enhance on at 2.8v. It also goes up to around 225MHz at 2-6-3-3.
The Mushkin hates 2-5-2-2 timings but can do up to 222MHz @ 2-6-2-3 and 230MHz @ 2-6-3-3 @ 2.85v

Ok, I am on the same boat as bmg. Looks like I will be getting Corsair as well.
What do you gentlemen (and ladies, if applicable) recommend for burn-in software?

Hi Will,
Sandra burn-in. run continously for 24 hours or more with 100% utilisation and hi-stress. start off from 166mhz @ 2.5-2.6v, then after some time crank it up and give it little more juice (volts) it really helped me to attain 243mhz out of Corsair XMS3000 with Samsung original chips.

What is the code of your c1 stepping 2,53 Ghz?
I checked with intel and they don't have a c1 stepping in their database voor that cpu, just B0 steppings.

not that i'm tryin to scrare you, but i heard from many peeps that Philly's tend to crap out after few weeks of xtreme usage. they just lose their overclocking potential given extra juice. i hope that won't be the case with your chip.

Well, I hope my board is the current prob (original BD7) because this bugger can not run at stock speeds without September 11th-ing before I hit the desktop.
Damn Intel sucks. :)
