Hi,
I am a little worried about the PSU I am gonna have to get to run a Vapochill MK 2 running an amd at 2.0V+. I have searched the vapochill forum and have really only come up with getting a pc power turbo cool psu BUT the highest psu on their site cannot be used in the UK as it seems not to have a 230V switch from the technical specs. Can anyone using a vapochill/prometiea/watercooling reccommend me a power supply with a high watt rating and adjustable pots for the +12 and +5 volt rails. I was gonna get the 400W sparkle but I dont think it will handle a vapochill with 2 cdroms and 2 harddisks.

TIA

Matty

I run my Vapo with a Sparkle 400 feeding the mainboard and phase change, then a second PSU feeding the drives and fans. Runs completely stable with XP at 2.1G+ and 2V+.

I use a TTGI 520w ps for the vapo. It was $85 new. It has triple fans and adjustable pot for +5/+12 rail. Only drawback is that it is a little larger than normal and the vapo is already very crowded. Not a problem for me as I installed on the backside of the case to allow easy access inside to board and cpu, etc. they do make an even more powerful PS, but I forget what wattage it is. I think the 12 line is rated at 45..the highest I have heard of. Thing is built like a tank. I LOVE IT!:D

I run two 550watt power supplies like DD does.

I used to run a single Enermax 550 but had too much voltage drop under loads..I modded the Max and it worked ok, but I find that two seperate supplies work better if you are not worried about having them outside the Vapo case.

As I do a lot of testing with mine and change motherboards and CPU's a lot, it works better like that..for me.
One supplies the Vapochill unit, the other supplies the peripherals.. no problems.. :)

I've tried 4 different PSU's in conjunction with the Vapochill, so far the Antec TruePower 480w has been the best. The Antec PP412X was second best. It has lower 12v readings than the True480

The Pc power and cooling has no switch because its auto sensing and will work from 90-250v volts ;) ...and it owns :D

2 power supplied needed for this?

Hmmm kinda deters me from getting i then.....I have a 430wat Antec Trupower and surely that should be enough?

I'm re-nigging on this one... don't buy a True480. It may be just mine, but the 480 has been determined to be the source of two dead hard drives. It ruined my two WD Special Ed. Drives. In addition to that, for some reason, the system wouldn't power on with my Lite-on DVD drive. Okay, so i remove that from the system... i was running on a Maxtor drive and things seemed to be working well. Well today the system won't recognize the Maxtor drive. Thankfully, the drive isn't dead, it works in another computer. I got my replacement WDs today.... neither of them will work on the True480. This could be a fluk PSU, but nonetheless, I won't be buying another one.

A single example is a poor statistic.

I don't think you need a big-honking PSU to run the Vapo only. I have a small Sparkle 180w just to run the compressor, (it's small enough to fit in the case,) and an Antec 550w for the mobo, drives, etc. Works well for me.
