Hi
IĀ“ve got my new OCZ 2x256 PC4200 in the last few days, but whatĀ“s a "healthy" voltage for them? Stock voltage is 2,8v, do you think 3,4v wont damage the ram?
I donĀ“t want to fry my new RAM in the first few days :p:

thx

it'll be fine... take the heatspreaders off and point a fan at them

ive heard some RAMs still "healty" @ 3.7V for like one year. So i think the only way you can fry some RAMs is by kind of sudden dead.

I wouldn't expect the voltage to cause a problem, but any time you go over specs it is a possibility, and a risk you take.

When you use voltages of 3.2v and over is it best to leave the hsp's on or take them off? There will be a fan on the ram anyway.

I'm almost 100% positive that running 3.7v through the ram would damage it when it comes to long term use, even with heatsinks and fans and so on. I'm pretty sure you'd experience electromigration of the unkind variety after not too long.

I thought that the OCZ PC4200 ram has an over voltage protection.

Miy PC4200EL seems to have this problem. Anything higher than 2.95V and the system shuts down.

sN1b3r: WELCOME MAN!!!!!! :welcome:

LalPOOO: like i said,"some people" not me. And some people was at 4.1V for benching w/o any problems. And Ive NEVER heard about some DDR RAMs died coze of high voltage. Did you?

I killed OCZ PC3500EL @ 3.5v...there you go now youve heard of ram dying at high voltage :stick:

I wouldnt go much over 3.3v but I mean honestly how high voltage could you possibly need with ram these days? I hit 257fsb with 2.7v with my 3700 gold

thx mates
I think i wont go over 3,4v, only my Twinmos sticks with BH5 Chips can handle ~3,7v :p:
And what to do with the heatspreaders? Is there any difference between heatspreader + fan, or no heatspreader with fan?

@manoj:Really? IĀ“ve never heard something like that, IĀ“ll test it today :)

I don't think that those OCZ PC4200 need lots of volts. 2.9-3.0V should be fine.
They're made to run at higher FSB, lower timings and volts.
