View Full Version : adding a MCW50 killed my CPU temps

Before I could chill at 2.6Ghz 38C on my mobile Barton. Now 2.45Ghz is 40C wtf? Already reseated my block.

Original
Procore > CPU > NB > Res > Pump > Procore
and is now
Procore > CPU > GPU > NB > Res > Pump > Procore

I know it might sounds odd going from the CPU down to the GPU and up to the NB but it was the best way to avoid kinks, + my res is in an odd position so that it would be really hard to have my GPU last in the series.

Hardware:

AS5 tim
MCW5000A
MCW20
MCW50
Via Aqua1300
tygon 3/8" ID 1/2" OD tubing
Procore w/shroud and 75cfm fan

So I ordered a 150cfm delta, although I am wondering if its the flowrate thats killing my temps. From what I understand, swifty waterblocks are high-flow.

Here is a before pic of my rig. Dont have the digicam handy atm.

i dont know why your temps are different, but i can tell you they would be better if you took out the NB wb and used 1/2" ID tubing.

my temps were great before with the NB waterblock

I think adding another block on a VIA 1300 was too hard. Its your pump.

OR another possibility is that your water temp come too high at the end of passing trough 3 blocks and its hard to chill it back to ambient.

like i said before, removing NB block will greatly increase flow rate and help temps. any decent nb hsf will perform as well as a waterblock. NB waterblocks = Flow restrictions , unneccesary heatload into loop. :2cents:

Christoph, it isn't the heatload, it's the flow restriction.

I cana gree with you though. with just my maze3 my temps drop like 4 degrees because my maze4gpu restricts flow.

kick up the pump (find one with more head) and then get a dual 120mm sporting heatcore to really dump some heat.

change tubing up to 1/2" ID on everything.

its def the heatercore! get a second pro heatercore or a 120mm heatercore from a junkyard/ebay and sell your pro heatercore.

pump is fine, tubing is fine, you can improve your temps with more flow, but not much. problem is too much heat for the small heatercore.

change the tubing to 1/2" ID

I figured it was too much heat :flame:
So I got a sweet heatercore at my local radiator shop for $10. It fits two 12cm fans perfect lengthwise, is about 20cm height, and has 1/2" ID inlet/outlet. I'm almost done with my external setup. I was going to run my MCW5000 solely off the Procore, and then then MCW20 and MCW50 off the bigger one so I can get a TEC for my R9800Pro.

change the tubing to 1/2" ID

Has anyone modded swiftech blocks to fit 1/2" ID tubing? I'm sure they could be machined, but I don't have that kind of hardware

They make adapter barbs for them that work well. Doesn't restrict flow much.

yup, just take some hose barb at a local shop or the Swiftech hose barbs

try it with the smaller barbs irst, im sure theres almost no diference at all between smaller and bigger barbs.

you think theyres no difference between ID 1/2 and 3/8???????

not really , yes :)

Did you ever seen a 3/8 vs 1/2 test? You have almost 1.2xmore water moving 1.5x faster w/ 1/2.
