View Full Version : How to mod the 3.3V rail of a PSU that already has a pot inside?

Hi,

I'm about to mod my Mapower 500W PSU because although it has a pot for the 3.3V rail inside, it doesn't allow me to raise the voltage as high as I want/need to. I'd like to be able to raise the 3.3v rail to about 3.6V, but the max that I can get wth the inside pot is 3.4V.

Now my question is the following:

Should I mod the 3.3v sense-wire to raise the 3.3V rail further, or should I replace the inside pot with aother pot that has a different rating?
If the latter, then should the new pot have a higher or lower rating?

Greets and thx in advance!

Ingmar :)

Go with the "standard" (Vsense) mod. :)

Wouldn't it be possible to just add a resistor in series, to the pot that i already there, at the back of the PSU PCB???:confused:

the point it to LOWER the resistance. So just take the pc ice easy sense wire mod.

If you add a resistor in series, then the total new resistance is:

Total Resistance = VR + Factory Fixed Resistor
Example --> 10K VR: 10K + 470ohms = 10,470ohms

For resistors in parallel:

Total Resistance = (VR * Factory Fixed) / (VR + Factory Fixed)
Example --> 10K VR: (10K * 470) / (10K + 470) = 448.9ohms

Just a couple formulas for you to see whats going on when we do mods.
