Hi all, just a quickie ;) I have 2 pc's connected over a 11Mb wireless LAN. I want to be able to controll either pc depending on which one I am using. What program do I need?

Thanks.

P.S. both PC's running 2k pro.

For 2k Pro, I'd use VNC. Several versions around, but my favorite is tightVNC, http://www.tightvnc.com/

Price is right (free) and is nicely full-featured.

Others: UltraVNC, http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/
RealVNC, http://www.realvnc.com/download.html

I use Radmin and it works ok, but it's not very enjoyable if you're planning of running it for more than a few minute long sessions to do simple things. It's quite slow so you will experience "lag". XP has one built in, haven't tested it and not sure if it's available for 2k.

NP, the thing that sets VNC apart from the others is its universality - versions for Windows, Linux, Unix, MAC, etc etc.

I'm not sure about this on WIN2K, but in Windows XP you can just download MSN Messnenger on both machines and remotely control which ever pc you like using the other pc. I have done it with friends, but the the result is it is very slow especially for browsing and opening files.
My friend tried playing a game and it frooze lol

I disagree SJ, the best version IMO is ultravnc. It's substantially quicker. Have you given it a try? http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/

Whatever version of VNC you use is going to be insecure. If you are going to be using it over the net you want to use an SSH tunnel :D

Good point CJ145, I'm LANing all my VNC sessions so that wasn't on my mind when I posted.

shray, I've tried them all. Whatever works is the one to use. Just because I like one doesn't mean it's the best for anyone else :toast:
