This is a +5v and +12v mod for the Levicom X-Alien 500 Watt PSU.

Aspire has a 500W PSU wich looks exactly the same like the X-Alien but it's 110v.
Aspire owners please check in the inside of the PSU that you have a chip labled KA7500B. As i am not sure this mod will work on the Aspires too.

What you need is:
- Soldering equiment
- Wires
- 50K VR

Take all steps nescesary to remove as much as electricity out of the psu as possible.
If you are not carefull the psu can kill or seriously injure you.

Make sure your VR is at max. resistanse with your multimeter.

Had to be said...

Let's take a look at the PSU...

Now it's time to open up the psu and look for a chip called: KA7500B.

Now you solder your VR to pin 1 and 7 of this chip like this:

A closer look:

After being totaly sure the VR is at max resistanse fire up your psu and start tweaking your +5v and +12v lines to suit your needs.

That's it. you're done!

Maybe somebody knows a 3.3v mod for these psu's?

Good luck with the mod and be carefull!!

Thanks for sharing. Well written.

I dont know off the top of my head if there is an internal chip to mod for hte 3.3v rail, but I would be very surprised if the ATX Connector did not have the standard sense line that even cheapo supplies have.

Hello XS.org, my first post at this noble forum.. :)

I was searching around on google, and found this post about 5/12v mod of the Aspire / Levicom power supply and i, with no hesitation, ripped apart my computer to explore my PSU (TurboCase Aspire 500 Watt Power Supply with 220v interface) and the first thing i found was the KA7500B so i am quite sure i can do this mod on mine too..

But my 5v lies nicely on 5v and i like it there, but my 12v is overvolting at 12,8-13,1 thats not bad.. good overclockability, but i want it down, and i dont want to adjust 5v and 12v at the same time, so i searched google another time, and this time i found this: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Pines/5440/pcsupply.html

Its unfortunally an AT style supply, but he says that the 12v is in his case adjustet by a resistance between pin 1 and 2 on the KA7500 chip..

But.. Anyone that knows something.. Speak up, i don't want to ruin my power supply.. YET! :D

(And i can't find the sense lines either, i just figured out that they werent there)

Sorry for bringing old topic, but I'm a user of Aspire 520W PSU. I'm ready to do this mod on my PSU but where can I get 50K VR? Radioshack has only 1K, 10K, 100K i believe. Will 10K VR work? Does anybody know how to mod 3.3v line? Somebody has to know. I don't have any more money to afford OCZ or Zippy PSU :p:. Somebody speak up for god sake.

@Hell-Fire, would you check what chips carry 3.3v

EDIT: Confirmed, Will work on my Aspire!!!!! , just need to know what xK VR I need and where to get it.

Dont know where you can find the VR because i live in Finland, but go look aroud.
And there is no way to do something about the +3.3v line, with no vsense and no pots, there are nothing you can do, had one my selfe a wile back, and know it sux.

Yep, I'll look around. This PSU doesn't have any sense wires. But it is possible to mod 5v and 12v line (look at the pic above). 3.3v line I believe is modable also, just need to know where to solder wires :D . Right now I have choice between 10K VR or 100K VR, which one?

Thanks for reply

EDIT: He metion to set 50K VR to max. Would that be equalivent to set 100K VR at half, equaling 50K?

OK, I used 4 resisors in series! Equaling 44.7K ohm. My 12v rail raised from 11.72v to a healthy 12.24v. 5v rail went up from 4.95v to 5.11v. Damn I'm happy. Tomorrow I'll use 40K ohm resistance to crank 12v rail to around 12.8v :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: just wondering about 3.3v rail................... gets low as 3.11v under heavy load :(

I think that the KA7500 just controls the 5/12v lines. Are there any other chips in the PSU?

Right now my PC is all assembled, I don't feel like taking it apart again
