I haven't seen one of those. If there is one, I imagine it would be a lower wattage in order to not burn your fingers that close to the tip. That's the reason for the long shaft on most irons, the shaft is designed to dissipate the heat before cooking the handle :)

I suppose you've already tried places like Mouser and Digikey.

I would think that a 15 watt iron would be low enough for a design of that nature...I suppose you could experiment and make one...using the right insulation it just may work.

The Weller WLS comes to mind, I know there are also a number of less expensive micro soldering pencils, although I've had no experience with them. The Basic WLS is not cheap, a little shopping should find one for about $200 I've used one for a quite some time and its one of my favorites.

The Link is just a quick google of it, shop around if/when you purchase.

Not exactly intended for the casual Vmodder, and if you shop around you'll be quite a lot less than that...

If you've ever had a cheap wrench break and smash your knuckles, its the same kind of thing here... You get what you pay for...

I still have a Weller EC1001 iron, with 3 spare micro point tips. Anyone doing a bunch of vmods for freinds/family could make it worth buying.... $100+shipping.

Why don't you just buy a dull tip and then use something like a Dremel to sharpen.

I use a butane Iron. It heats up about 2x as fast as electric and it is adjustable. It has a thin pencil tip and only costs about $40 (canadian). Works great for vmods. :D
