Just get some copper sheet, like 1/4" and then some copper tube.

Solder them together, and drill mounting holes.

Why holes?

You can mount it with long bolts and a hold down like this. (Charlie's pic btw)

DI/LN2 on NB !

that is quite Xtreme!

I might try this some day. Just need copper piping from plumbers. Can you use a heatsinks base to mount it on?

lalPOOO

yes, as long as you can affix it properly. Just make sure the base is fairly thick, or you'll have very unstable temperatures.

Meh just gonna do the have base on copper piping and secure with Charlies DIY device.

How would you about having dry ice on your vid card?

Just solder up a 90° in there so the inlet points up to the sky like the CPU container.

How does 95/5 solder hold up under these temperatures anyways......or is silver solder the way to go?

dude, on tech tv last week they made chocolate ice cream mix, and froze it with ln2 then ate it, it was 1337.

We don't have tech tv down here.

*OFFTOPIC*

Oooo! New section!! Looks like this is gonna be me next step once I've sussed (to a degree) custom Phasechange... handy section to have is this!

We don't get TechTV in UK either (that I'm aware of) :(

Well we have a section now. So all of us have to go do it. Dry ice place is 1 mile from my house 10lbs for $5. I used to get it 2 years ago from them, and throw it in my Water Res. And fog up the whole house.

I think silver solder is the way to go because if im correct you use silver sodler to solder refrigant tubing?

Charlies budget DI device= 8" of 2 inch copper pipe, 1 x 2" copper "pipe cap" but make sure you get the flat kind, not the rounded one. Braze together. Buy a small package of copper plated steel BB's from WalMart or Sporting goods store or whatever. In a small container add a bunch of elmers white glue to the BB's stir around then plop them in the bottom of tube, instant mass! Go light on the glue it's prob a heat insulator!
Voila'

How much did the copper tubes cost you?

Dont use silver or tin/led based solders with temps like these! PhosCo ( not sure if its called that way its phosphor and copper mixture) is the way to go:D

Although silver containers are known to be better for getting rid of heat.

Yes, sadly they are VERY VERY expensive, but hell copper works just as well and at -78C I don't know how you could complain.

Yer anything below -30c is good for me :)

How thick do you make the layer in the bottom of tube? Do you apply thermal paste or anything to these between tube and CPU?

lalPOOO
03-29-2004, 12:50 PM
Yea, deffinitly thermal paste. "Cermaique" is suggested because it scales better with cold temps. The thickness of the bottom layer of the tube is a fairly debateable discussion, but most people are using something around 1/2" or smaller. I personlly would avoid anything under 1/8, as you'd get mad temp swings.
