can the HD and other stuff handle it ??

most HW handles a voltage toleration of 10%, so I guess 13volts is still OK

I think up to 13.25V is totally stable

Why would someone ask this? It's because some power supplies regulate the 5v and 12v from the same coil: one set of primary windings, and then two sets of secondary windings which give you two discrete voltages. When you adjust the sense line, it affects both the 5v and 12v rails.

I know this is true on the Antec SmartPower PSU's.

On a cheap rig at home I had a while back, modifying the 5v rail to give decent voltages (~5.4) ended up running my 12v rail to like 13.2... Since it was within the 10% variance (just barely) I left it alone. That was an Asus P2B-D board with a pair of P3-550's running at 682 (5.5 x 124).

That rig ran for probably a year or more 24/7 as a baby web server. Had several different flavors of harddisks in it; a pair of Western Digital 20gb's, a Maxtor 40gb and a Quantum 8gb. Also had a pair of CD players; never had any issues with any of it. :)

Yea, I have the smart power, so I know how it causes the other rail to rise, I'm just curious why you needed 5.4v now?
I thought you guys were just raising your 12v lines really high for fun or somthing :p:
