For gaming, yes. I'd say also for mathematical + scientific applications. Personally, I wouldn't because I use mostly web surfing and Digital video and audio encoding.

But then again, for 3dmark2001, yes. I would go for FX-51. But not much else reason though.

I would get another 512 of ram and call it a day.. At least until the 939 pin afx comes out. If you are looking to spend your money try getting an external surround sound system and a hdtv for full room computing :)

I know i will never go back.

You mean you lose the Mach I in the trade? Hmm.. How much does it cost? Looking at the cost perspective, AFX is damn expensive.. might be a good trade after all.

Performance - AFX without prometeia will lose I think. Not much though.

But he loose is 9800XT=watercooling w/ it too.

If you whant a real upgrade, buy the MCW50-T

The fx-51 won't give you that much of a boost in games over your 4 gig P4. A little, for sure, especially if you prommy cool it to a nice overclock, but the memory could hold back your max fsb overclock unless you go to cas 2.5 -- If it were me and I had your rig, I'd pass on the FX and wait for socket 939 if you really want to go 64 bit.

Wait for fx-53 to come out. The fx-51 will most likely drop in price then.

I heard that the FX53 will replace the FX51 (i.e they will discontinue the FX51). That way they keep up the asp.

I would say change for the A64 FX-51 setup 100%

If you have a chance to go from a P4C to a much better FX-51 setup at a little or no cost to you then definitely go for it.

The mach2 is a much better investment than the mach1 and the FX-51 will still a powerful cpu. There will NOT be a performance increase or a minor one atleast from going to socket 939. The only difference will be is that you can use unbuffered ddr ram. The FX-53 will only be clocked @ 200mhz higher than the FX-51 and a FX-53 will be released for the socket 940 boards as well. Even though the FX-53 will be comming out w/ socket 939 in sept/october your system will still be MUCH better than the people who are using air/waterr cooled fx-53 due to your mach2 which will give you an edge. However this is not competition. The FX-51 will handle any game for al ong time to come, it is 64bit ready unlike the P4, and you can always upgrade later when the FX-55 is ouyt which will ive a more noticeable performance increase.

Just my $.02
