If I want to mount fans on both sides of a radiator core, example: I have a big core that will fit 2 120mm fans side by side on one side of the core. I want to use 4 fans total, 2 next to each other on opposing sides with shrouds. What is the best way to set up the fans?

Set tjhem up on one side all pulling prefereably with appropriate distance produced by air-tight, tapered shroud.

Try different configs befor final installation using papr for shrouds and see which oine is the best for you :)

How would i put them on one side. My core is big enough to put two on one side. Do you mean stack them?

Don't stack them. Just put two on each side, one side pulling, one side pushing.

Ok thats what I thought. Cool!

I agree with Jabo.

Have four on one side with a shroud big enough for all four.

You want all of them pulling air through the rad.

But the radiator only fits two on each side! And why, may I ask, would you want them all pulling?

More cfm.

But try all possible configs. I just think 4 pulling will be better than a 2 pull 2 push config.

But you can't fit it! It'll be a waste of time, space and money, but, if it could be done, it WOULD be superior to 2 push 2 pull.

Pulling creates the least amount of turbulence at appropriate distance.
Yes more CFM is the answer.
Try making two paper shrouds, one for push pull one for all pull and just by placing your hand at exhaust end you should be able to tell which one is better.

That's what I meant

just a quick sketch, I hope it is clear enough to read...
What you need to to do is make a shroud which at fan end is big enough to hold 4 fans in 2x2 config and on rad end to ... hold rad :)

Well, you can exchange side with top viwe if that's more convenint for you :)

Ok I see what you mean now. What would be the temp difference doing it that way?

Dunno dude, you gotta try to see :)

Still trying to figure out why pulling all that air is better than blowing right into the radiator.

I think it's something to do with pressure.

It's just easier for the fans to pull the air rather than push it into a radiator.

If you look at commercial air conditioners, they will always have the fans pulling.

Use either a Papst 120mm (50cfm, 30dbA) or a Panaflo M1A 120mm (80cfm, 35dbA).
Nice and quiet for multi-fan rads :D
