Turns out that im unexpectedly going to beable to upgrade my entire hardware base again. Looks like KD7, 2600+ and Corsair PC3200A. Cooling system up in the air still, but...this will work for now.

Anyway, have some questions someone here might know the answer too:

1.) Does KD7 support XP diode? And does it have any sort of thermal protection? If not, are there any other comparable KT400 boards out there that might?

2.) I know that the 2400+ and the 2600+ are coming at the end of this month. But im hearing things about a 2800+ now (hardocp), which has 333 support and 512k cache. What is the ETA on these ones?

3.) Is Corsair PC3200A some of the top stuff still? I see Geil floating around, but hear mixed things.

4.) Does KT400 support 1/6th fully, so if I run at 200FSB, the PCI will be at a nice 33?

I guess some of these answers are pretty much up in the air still until we get some real products out hehe. Im not so convinced that the new KD7 will do much better than my KX7 does, maybe less AGP tearing over 210mhz.

Player,

Good to see you, I can only comment on the diode Question. As far as I know AMD made it a must for all socket A mobos released after July 2002 to be able to read the temp diode.

Thx Opp. I know youve been testing memory too...whats currently used in your main rig?

XP diode is good then.

Im actually thinking P4 right now as well. It just seems like the king and well, maybe its about time i switch to the darkside.

Player,

I have the Corsair 3200 in right now, it's good for the higher Mhz, it's doing 132 with some half half timings. When it comes to my Most agressive timeings my Mushkin 3000 does better. This is with the "Dark Side" IT7 :D

I just found this info on the Barton (512)
I wouldn't hold my breath on these chips.

Barton just seems wrong. AMD has really got their thumbs up their asses. 166mhz and 512k cache proccies should have been out last quarter to compete with Intel.

*OR* a quick and tidy Q4/2002 release of Hammer. I thought hammer was the excuse for not releasing on the newer XPs, but now they pull another flipflop and put themselves even further behind.

Now im stuck buying a CPU by the end of the month, and this forces me to be obsolete with 2800+ being released in October, which really kind of sucks.

So I think Intel, but this is a more expensive solution, and if I dont use DDR ram, theres not much point. Of course RDram going the way of the dodo so has little longevity.

Shoulda kept my kx7 :)

Here you go Player, pick this mobo up and tell us how it does:D
http://www.amd3d.com/review/a7v8x/index.htm

It may be a good Overclocker, the only problem might be a Mem voltage issue, it would need a mod.

Dont touch that mobo - theres a no boot issue with the radeon 9700 unfortunately. Wait for an updated radeon or asus bios to fix the problem.

ATI designed the AGP 8x capability on Intels 8x agp spec. As a byproduct it doesnt work on any sis or via board supporting AGP8x. The chipset detects AGP8x, tries to set it and you get the no gfx card beeps. No way round it as yet.

Opp - as for mem timings can you match cas 2/Tras7/TRCD3/TRP2/Enhance on at 236fsb? ;). Only problem is my cpu doesnt match it...

1850/1857 sandra unbuffered at under 3ghz.....

Thats why im after a 2.8b ;).

Generic Winbond BH5 @ 2.95v incase youre wondering. Got some Twinmos Winbond BH5 coming soon tho, so im hoping to get a bit better from that :).

Asus huh? After my A7v333 experiences im not sure id buy one :)

I probably wont be getting a Ati 9700 either, i have a ti4600 and i generally skip a generation.

Not that a 20000 3dmark score wouldnt be nice 9.9

Damn PiLsY thats pretty good.
Not even close with the mem I have (Corsair). I can do 232 at Cas2.5, 6,2,3
I'm going to look for a new IT7 today with higher mem voltage to get these timings better, I have 2.96 max.
Unfortunitly I don't have my GEil any more and it may have done your timings, infact I should get another stick:D

BTW: you can send me that stick anytime your done with it:D

quick question when you guy state 3200a you mean the 1.1 revison sticks or the 2.1 revisions. mine witch i got over a week ago from newegg is 2.1 pc3200c2 xms. someone said this uses 5ns chips where the 1.1 used 6ns winbond chips?? my memory runs 2,2,2,5,1 fast decode enhanced at 200mhz at 2.85v now. at first it wouldn't run at 197mhz without 3.05v now I guess its burn't in and works lovely at 200...
