In Search of Jedi-

Can someone please be my Jedi Instructor under linux.... I have got it installed and have been playing around with the gnome xwindows. But I need further instruction on how to full utilize this machine so that I may throw away Windows and never look back.

The best bet is to find a LUG (Linux Users Group) nearby. Hands-on with others in real time, same physical location is important. You'll get frustrated "going it alone" even if getting support via IM or phone.

Next best would be a Linux for Dummies type book, with chapter-by-chapter examples and walk-throughs.

So best bet would probably inroll in some college courses that are linux based?

I'd start by going to GLUE (Groups of Linux Users Everywhere), http://www.ssc.com:8080/glue . You might find a LUG (Linux User Group) nearby, join them - most have regularly scheduled meetings and Linux LAN parties. Practical info from folks like you.

If that doesn't work, get over to http://www.ssc.com, subscribe to the Linux Journal, read the (free) online rag Linux Gazette at http://www.linuxgazette.com/ and ask questions.

School courses are fine, just cost $$ and force a schedule on you.

Go with fedora core 1 pretty easy to install... since I have posted this thread I have learned quite a bit. Just takes research. If I had someone on my side helping me I would probably have learned it a lot faster and probably know a lot more at this point, but it is all good. I'm getting the hang of it my next step will be learning how to make my own scripts and programs for linux, but there is a lot I still have to learn about the inner workings of the OS.

UT2k4 runs 10x faster on my linux box then it does on my microsh*t box.... I'm proud of the little guy :)

if you know programation you are ok with writting scripts and programs, you can use Kylix that is the brother of the Delphi, but kylix use a little of C++ and a lot of pascal.

UT2k4 have a version for Linux or you are using Wine ??? (is the complete game or demo ???)

See Ya

I can help you with installing Nvidia drivers for Linux(Mandrake specifically) and the basic commands. I'm a novice to Linux too.
