Hi I have some X5450's laying around and i'd like to pull them to 400Mhz FSB from 333Mhz FSB since I can't overclock in the BIOS...

Once I build my for stuff's and giggles Precision 690 - Chenbro build I plan to throw the X5470's in there 3.33Ghz 333Mhz FSB x10 Multi.... And BSEL them from 333Mhz to 400Mhz... Which is 4Ghz so I'll have Dual X5470's at 4Ghz and 32GB of DDR2-800. I guess I'll need DDR2-800 for headroom? It's an Intel C600 series I believe.

I'd also like to BSEL an X5450 on I believe an Intel G31 chipset from 333mhz to 400Mhz... From 3Ghz to 3.6Ghz.. Not much but still something.

THANKS!

The chipset on the 690 board does not support 5400 series chips. The T5400 and T7400 boards will take 5400 series chips.

T7400: http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/precn/en/precn_t7400_specsheet.pdf

X5450's will work on T5400 or T7400's. X5470's will work in T7400's.

X5470's are still FSB 1333Mhz, so you don't need DDR2-800 RAM. However the T7400 will take DDR2-800 RAM.

I hope you have some good heatsinks. The stock Dell ones are pieces of doody. There are some Noctua ones that will fit however.

According to the spec sheet pdf it supports them.

This is from wikipedia.

** Precision 690 motherboard part number MY171 supports Quad-core Xeon processors. System board numbers DT029 and F9394 do NOT support quad-core processors (for these, use Xeon 5000-series or 5100-series FSB 667Mhz Dual-core Xeon processors and PC2-4200 or PC2-5300 FBDIMM ECC RAM).

My board number is FOXCONN LS-36 --- CN-0F9394-13740-65A-00DT --- Rev A00 <<---- My Luck it's clearly an F9394... DAMN
