For starters i have a 120gb hard drive already partitioned into 3 drives:

c drive is winxp home
d drive is for backup/downloads(the drive i would like to put linux on)
e drive is windows server 2003 enterprise edition

First off i transfered everything off d drive that i needed to save.
next put in and booted from rh9 cd

here is where i get lost.

i know u need a root and a swap partition....so how do i partition the d drive into 2? will i need to use partition magic or can i do it during instalation?

what is my mount point?
what should i partition as> ex2, ex3?

how do i define a root partition?

i cannot afford to lose any infor on the other 2 drives so if repartitioning the whole drive is nessary then i will not be able to continue till i get a new hard drive to add in>

Start with a clean drive, one that you cannot afford to lose data on and let RH9 auto partition for you.

I'm with fugger. While I do multi-boot/same disk installs all the time I wouldn't want to even consider setting up someone to learn on the same drive - too much chance for error and the resulting toasted data on your windows partitions.
