The bottom line with Haswell is that it is great in a workstation environment which fits everyone's profile for the most part because Queue depth levels are very low. If you are using Haswell in an enterprise scenario like a file, web or database where high queue depths are much more common then Haswell is not the way to go. It has up to 10 times worse performance in those server categorizes than Z77 with arrays of 2 drives or more, with the exception of workstation environment where queue depth levels are very low then Haswell is markedly better. You can also see this in CDM 4K:QD4 and 4K:QD32 testing too.

What's with the ATTO results? Haswell does that no matter the drives used but, SandForce is especially affected. This happens to SandForce even with a single drive. Marvell, Samsung and LAMD drives are not really affected until you raid them. Passmark testing shows it best read this review for a better explanation http://www.rwlabs.com/article.php?id=845

Hi Bill I was wondering if you could answer a layman's stupid question please..

What is the easiest way to make SSD's align properly, ie I keep reading that alignment is a big thing in order to provide the best possible speed. Please bear in mind the following:

I'm using a pair of Samsung 840 Pro 256Gb drives
They are in Raid 0 on a MAximus VI Extreme Mobo
Using the IRST drivers 12.7.?.? (When setting up Windows 7 Ultimate 64 I used the F6 floppy driver as well)
They are plugged into the Intel SATA 3 ports, port 1 and 2.

I appreciate any information in the way to align these properly as I am currently experiencing lower read / write rates than advertised.

Clean installing the OS should align it properly.
AS SSD will tell you if it is aligned. (green not red alignment info).

Thanks SteveRo, I've been basing on whether it's offset correctly from using msinfo32

I'll double check when I get home that my brand new Win7 install has aligned correctly.
