Seems Haswell fluctuates a lot like 4.998 to 5.011 if just sitting in os and not manipulating os do you just wait to get ss? Seems inaccurate is there any other way?

I have two retails that I just picked up, I will let you know if they get to 5Ghz on air like both of the ES cpu's I have.

Honestly b0 is sooo much slower than c0, but the times will reflect this.

Anyway, I expect retail chips to catch up with ES chips soon, just take into account that some guys had months to bin ES chips before release of the retail chips.

Hey C-N it is simply the uncore + secondary and tertiaries. 4800 uncore a.k.a. cache should yield better results, but having core at 1:1 with uncore is going to be the fastest if you can get it to run, but I find it harder with all the retail cpu's I have tested so far, some needed as little as 1.5v others 1.65v all under cold to get 5Ghz uncore.

Also remember no need to run uncore higher than core, this is different in regards to X58 as this will yield a negative impact on your 32m time.

^ this, psc is still the best for most uses when you se thte timings properly. the imc on the 6.5ghz chip cant push frequency much passed 2600 when at speed. so in that case bbse would be stronger with 6-9-6-18-58 but in most cases yes psc is the best when frozen. on air samsung is bossss.

ofcourse :) seems that 3-4 timings are the only ones that matter and they are just too loose at such high frequency for best times.

I'm sure its stuck as I did a quick test between 3500 & 3900 @ 2666 which gained about a second then set 5000 & found no gain. I would hope for a second + from 3900 ~ 5000. I cant test this any fairer with bclk etc as the BIOS is too flaky with these Samsungs. Its early days atm so I will just have to wait until GB fix the BIOS & see what happens.

Looks to me Nick/Splave are the race :D I was quite happy to see Splave make a few Samsung runs which is all I'm really interested in running so got an aiming point.

Cache speed too high will effect stability of 32m . and also no gain when u bench with higher CPU mhz

So u can find a proper cache speed for maximum performance

what would be the fun if you got ALL the settings? there aren't too many on the OCF. ive been on haswell less than 24 hours so that should give you an idea how easy it is to get this kind of score. ive read no guides, and only made 2 slight modifications (ramdisk + maxmem) to my pi os.

here is a hint... there are a lot of 4's and 3 13's and 1 5. that covers all of my 3rds

pi is fun because its more than just timings... as I will demonstrate in my next post.

in no way would I call myself pro. the 2666 tight bbse profile helped start as a baseline, then I tuned in from what it could do on ivy, then tuned in more till it was nice. tune in too far, and you lose efficiency on 3 timings. tfaw, twrwrdd, twrwrdr. tfaw is set to 20 by the profile and you should raise it to 26.

i can almost get trfc 89 to pass but it seems a little slower most likely due to bleeding edge instability. mabye if it gets cooler here in socal. ambients are a pain to work with sometimes when you have central air.

tempted to switch to sammys or some psc to see how they fare. all my stuff is all retail. no cherry picks except mabye the memory but that was pure luck of the newegg draw.

Couldn't get 2830 to run coz the board changes strap or whatever over 106 bclk but managed 2850 with lower bclk 2860 was a no go!! so figured id shoot for 2933 . Don't have adjustment for a few settings shown on memtweakit & most of the timings displayed are one out i.e set 15 in bios get 14 in mt. The other difficult thing is the timing names on mt don't correlate to my giga bios so been fudging stuff up good & proper. Anyway ended up giving 3000 a go with my dominators & they run so looks like I got some tweaking to do :D

OCF is a breeze to bench one you figure out what your cpu likes voltage wise.

I don't know how you guys are running BBSE on Haswell, so much fail for me, and the worst type of fail, the "I'm not even going to boot" sort of fail:p:

I think sub 6 can be done with 4.7-4.8 uncore, but you are right, the higher to 1:1 the better. Looking forward to seeing some cold results from you and your beastly BBSE:up:

Thanks Ron, I would love to get together the next time I am in Texas especially since Mikecdm lives so close, I figure we could have a mini North Texas meet lol.

I am sure the humidity is not so bad as down in Corpus Christi say, but it is a pleasure to bench out in California, where relative humidity is 34 % on a bad day and 16 % on a good day:)

I think we need to organize a West Coast event, it has been a long time since there was anything in the US and this blows my mind, as I am sure we are not a small market.

Got it from gskill 2 years ago. Don't think it's retail on the market.

CL9 were retail on newegg but only some limited kits and sold out in one day, james and me and thomas have some, but this is first time i saw C8

Well crap and here I thought I had a decent 4Ghz time:p:

Time to go back to the drawing board.
Looks like he's on too something good,he's really worked out something good from looking at his AIDA64 it looks really good.So much to learn on this new platform given time we will all work it out,we are problem solvers, just have to work out the puzzle
@AndreYang, very nice time man

Indeed he is, the 4Ghz time is epic:yepp:

Going to be back at it tonight though, with a different kit.

Have faith Alex-Ro :P When those Costa Ricas hit the market... Well at least that's my hope!

All ready in Northern Cali, going to pick up one or two tomorrow if time permits, hoping for some Costa Rican magic in a box!

Are the 2500C8 Tridents the demonstrator kit from Computex kit from a couple of years ago or you actually managed to find them in retail?

yeah its basically the same

hey Sam i was thinking about what you said in the past about the hand picked stuff is nothing like retail and unmatchable, i have some thoughts on that,

in the past i agree with you, but on this platform things arnt the same for me, my 2 best sticks that i previously did 2800 7-11-7 with are no longer my best sticks, in fact they are just some retail kit i didn't even realize was PSC and just ripped out of a litecoin mining rig,

i tested a bunch of PSC this weekend, some mine, some owned by a bunch of different Australian guys, all the retail stuff that used to be 'average' on Z77 is now clocking the best on air, i haven't tried LN2 on many kits yet, but the sticks that i used to consider my gems are now getting beaten by a 2000c7 flare kit that i didn't give much respect to in the past

flare couldnt run 2600 on air in z77, now doing 2666 8-12-8-27 1T, trfc 82, twcl 6, same secondaries/tertiarys i want to use on LN2 minus trfc @ 1.91v

PSC on air have not so great efficiency for me at least, going to check the best set of these two(which can do cas 7 twcl 7 2600 on air 32M :D) on dice.

@youngpro very interesting, is this related to the haswell imc or do you think it is issue of the board you tested on? I skip Haswell, at least until now, so I cannot test my psc, one of these is in fact also Flare kit that already does 2600 8-11-8-28 on Z77

I've yet to see any huge difference between ivy and haswell at clocking memory(psc, sams, bbse) except they work little better on haswell.I've binned a dozen of psc kits on haswell and ivy, correlations are the same, better kits on ivy work better on haswell(m5e + m6e both cases used).

i dont think its IMC related, i swapped in and out chips and i didnt see the mhz go up or down, i think in the 2600-2700 range IMCs are very similar for PSC/BBSE, but i only tested limited samples

hey guys,

james and I did a lot of testing on the weekend with PSCs and ran into some problems with cold and could not tighten to 7-10-7 or 6-10-6

it was bios related! I confirmed it in testing last night and today and we're making a new benching bios that will sort this out. My PSCs arent too great so i couldnt really do a great deal more than 1300 cas6 and 1333 cas7 but a few guys do have some gems which should be cranking it pretty hard now. will update it when it's ready

Wow cool! I will try my kits, 4x2 dom gt 1600 cl6. At least one of them could run 2133 7-7-6 on SB @ 1.80 vdimm but it was slooow for the clocks back then.

edit: So I tried hypers too. My kits can't make much more than ~2250 MHz at any timings. Quick Pifast comparison between my fully tweaked BBSE @ 1300 8-11-7 1.85 vdimm and "just getting started" Hyper MGH-E at 1098 7-7-6-24 1.92 vdimm:

Hyper

Pretty neat huh? :)

Max pifast = 1130 MHz 7-7-6-23 1T trfc 68 with 1.96 vdimm. For 32m I will need cold on them.

don't have an air 5ghz chip to be honest. I can maybe next weekend when I start freezing things.

*edit*

or maybe tonight, checked tracking and my ek plates are supposed to be in today so I might play with a little dice, ln2 next weekend :)

@Splave

sa, ioa and iod? I noticed if they aren't set "right" things start slowing down. the auto rules are pretty good though.

Been through several bios's, all my timings both good & bad & spent 1/2 a day yesterday playing with voltages & ended up with exactly the same score as my previous 2 attempts. After seeing Alex's great run I was hell bent on not posting until I could at least break the sub 6 min mark but I just cant make it so this will have to do as my best.

Nice result man,if you lower trfc and some tertiary a little you'll reach your goal easily :)

There's got to be something I'm not getting but that really is the best I can do. Might be me, my chip the board who knows but its real tough with my Samsung's on the 2800 divider. I have a hard time adjusting secondary's. Lower trfc is slower for me & although I have run trrd 4 & trtp 4 it don't like it so I ended up setting 3 which must put the board into panic so it sets the lowest its happy with to boot. I been right through my timings & just cant get my samsungs to play nice on the 2800 divider.
