I have a Koolance 450S with 24v controller I have been using for the last year and a half. Tonight I was installing my loop in my new build,I opened the pump to clean it and replaced the o-ring(with a bits power D5 o-ring replacement (http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59_439_773&products_id=24147&zenid=845d9cc3b3e916ab08a858cfe8808894)), and everything was going good. I started to fill the res and turned the pump on. Water is moving and when the res got low I turned it off to fill it back up, but when I started it up again it started making noise. When I took it apart it looks like the impellers metal part is rubbing on the pumps metal drum. There's a grove I can see and feel a little on the pumps drum and there's a spot on the impellers metal part that looks "polished" that lines up with the grove. What happened, and is there a way to fix it?

Koolance got back to me, said it's most likely the plastic part on the impeller got broken or damaged and is causing it to spin off center. I looked and it does look like the part that sits on the ceramic barring is slightly thinner on one side. (couldn't get a good pic of it.) they said they could sell me a new impeller, which I will likely buy soon.

The bearing, the small white bubble is probably mesed up too. New pump time.

Just get a regular D5 vario, the 24V one is a waste of Money. I wish I was the marketer writer for Koolance on that one and got a cut. I'd be rich off the folks who bought it.

Nah, I'd inspect it but I suspect the impeller before that bearing. The impeller inside is the wear part as it is plastic. That bearing is hard ceramic and won't wear easily.

The ceramic bearing looks OK to me. As far as a waste.... it's not, it is the same price. Here's a review from martinsliquidlab.org (http://martinsliquidlab.org/2011/03/05/koolance-pmp-450s-d5-strong-pump/) I have that same controller he uses as well.

Check to see if somthing is lodged in the impeller thats is throwing it off ballance. I once had a dead ear wig come out of my pump

I'll take a look, but I don't remember seeing anything.

new impeller time..could have just been a slightly out of balance impeller and the strong speeds that caused a little vibration and early wear. I have seen quite a bit of variation in Laing impeller balance. Some run perfectly smooth and silent while others have harmonics or a little vibration more so than other samples. You just may have been a bit unlucky on the draw. Glad to see they are sending you are replacement. This is the first I have seen of what appears to be a worn out impeller.

Yeah that impeller is deadski ... here is a picture of another one that a moron on ebay tried to sell me as "In perfect condition"

I tried to get Koolance to sell me a replacement impeller and they told me they couldn't ... I even contacted Laing and each of the other D5 brand companys with no help.

Maybe when you asked they didn't have any replacements they could sell you.

Seen one with a dead bee. Forget who it was. There is a picture of it too buried in these threads somewhere in the before time, in the long long ago.
