Help with upgrading hardware

I currently have a gigabyte x38-dq6 + q6600 setup. If upgrade to an ivy bridge setup will Windows 7 installation give me a bsod? or will it update the system drivers to the newer hardware?

In theory, it should work fine as long as you go Intel-Intel or AMD-AMD, which is the case.

I have had no problems myself (running stable for 5months now) when I went from the Intel P67 chipset to the Intel Z77 chipset, just cleaned the drivers and installed new ones.

But yes, it is always better to go with a fresh and new installation of Windows when upgrading major components.
