Hi !

Is there ways to keep up to Trim level on unsupported as amd and older intel motherboards?

Im looking at 2x Samsung 830 for high end productivity workflow (cs5 suite, 3d, video). Running Windows 8.

I thought if there are manual ways or even automatic to harm TRIM mode in software raid that is fast enough as hardware raid? Do one has to rely on GC as sufficient alternative and sometimes to clean up as replacing image file after secure erase?

thanks for replies in advance

I'm not sure for AMD, but if you take a look at this thread (http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2281849), there is a way to modify the Intel Orom to enable Trim on chipsets other than the 7 series.
Familiarity with replacing orom and hex editor required.

the 830 have garbage collection at a hardware level. that means that just leaving them idle and affter about 10min they will do the equivalent of trim on their own at a hardware level.

do not use secure erase or a free space wipe on the newer drives, the nand is weak on lifespan and it messes up the garbage collection and provisioning.
