Well, finally time I got some scores uploaded... nowt special but finally broke 15k (which I have to say is nothing special when you see the specs of the rig used.... should have got MUCH higher IMHO)...

Thoroughbred 2200+ at 11x185 (2035) watercooled with NextCool GT3 Block (32deg idle, 42 load)
Abit KX7-333-r (unvoltmodded)
Radeon 9700 Pro (stock cooled, no ramsinks)
Win2000, SP2, Via 4in1442 (couldn't find 4in1440, so just used the agp set from em instead)
Drivers that shipped with the card (couldn't get any others to work!)

Conveniently enuff, that now puts over-clock uk / xtremesystems 3DMark team at top of the fastest webmasters board when they next update it...

I'm just glad to have finally broke 15k!!!

Congrats to you, Marci.

I'm sure there's much more left in that 9700, and I'm sure you'll find it! :D

You need to pull the HSF off and shim it. Mine works so much better now. Notice without the frag tape the HSF cannot touch the core. Also check to see how much contact area you had.

I have reached the max without volt mod on my core I belive @ 375Mhz, the memory seems weak and unable to break 662Mhz with stability.

Here's a little reference point for everybody. Highest core with stock HS(frag tape removed and a special Japanese thermal compound applied) plus a 6cm Delta screamer strapped on was 385. Highest memory was 345 with ramsinks. Ram oc seems to be weak on all the 9700s that I have seen or heard about. These clocks are without Vmods.

Vmem mod seems to do very little to help the ram. Will try the shim next on the core, then onto some supercooling(EVA3 if I can get it to fit on the Radeon) together with the Vcore mod which works nicely.:)

Any one know if the old 8500 pencil volt mod works on the 9700? Comp Usa does not have the 9700's in yet for me to experiment.
Fry and cry time is drawing near!!!!!!!!

Marty you better get your soldering iron ready cos the card has a metal plate covering part of the pcb that won't come off, so no pencil trick for now. But the Vmods are working though.;)

No Pencil mod:mad: It was so much easier to clean up for RMA purposes. Soldering Iron is on stand by if the need arises.:flame:

Well, I think me n mav can confirm the low mem overclocks. The card here in the shop that I was working with managed 345 without ramsinks but would go no higher... and 350/355 on core without modifying the card at all...

I'm hazarding a guess that putting ramsinks on it won't make much of a difference... what d'ya reckon, can we expect to see ATI change ramchips on later revs of the card, or do you think they've done it on purpose to try and keep costs down?

Im confused cos you said do you think ATi will put different ramsinks on in later revs, but in the first sentence you say they they dont do much if anything? :)

By the looks of it the 9700 core is OCing to around the 340-360 range from what Ive read here and at rage3d.com forums....:)

I have been searching boards and on the rage3d.com forums they mention the plate coming off with heat and ATI giving RMA's for those who's plate comes off.
