Monitor Selection

Hi, guys! :)
Help me choose a monitor. Needed for games, movies, high resolution (at least 1920 * 1080) and a diagonal of at least 60 cm! There is a decent option? :confused:

As i havent really tested 120Hz screens myself i cant talk about those, but as much as i have seen or read i can reccomend Dell U2311H/2412M/U2711H & Samsung new PLS panels these come in 24 and 27 inch , i quess it all comes down to how much you are willing to spend on it, i use a kind of small 23" Dell U2311H it was pretty cheap and i really like it, it has a nice look to it and the picture quality is really nice aswell, atleast for me plus it has portrait mode moves around left/right, up/down and whatever OSD is really nice and easy to use, same goes for the other dell-s aswell.
As i havent used the new samsung PLS panels myself i cant really say but as i hear these are really awesome aswell.
I would stay away from the TN panels that have less then 178*178 viewing angles IPS ftw =)

The 23" Dell u2311H has been replaced with the 23" Dell u2312HM, (EDIT: Removed 120Hz) it uses an LG IPS panel. You can find them on Amazon for roughly $230 (almost a full $100 cheaper than Dell's website)

those are great monitors, we use them at work, the Dell u2312HM, but they are not 120hz as far as i can find.

^Correct, oops, the mistake has been fixed. I was thinking of the Samsung S23A750D (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-S23A750D-23-Inch-Class-Monitor/dp/B005902YKK/ref=sr_1_10?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1325873091&sr=1-10) (the other monitor I was originally interested in, until I found out it was a TN panel)

@James_on, could you please do us all a favor and shorten your signature. It is absolutely ridiculous, please tidy it up so it doesn't take up so much room.

I'm in the same boat, my Samsung s27a350h quit after only 11 months, it was a 2ms tn panel that was awesome. I returned it to Costco with no problems, but I had no idea what to get other than the fact that I wanted an ips panel. After doing considerable research I decided to go with Dell's new 'S' series 27' ips [s2740l] that Costco has for $299.00 plus free shipping, because they have a no hassle return policy in case of dead or stuck pixels. Not all vendors are like this, some you have to have at least five dead or stuck pixels for a return, not an option for me when spending this kind of money. On this new Dell the colors are incredible along with very low input lag for gaming. I never notice any ghosting while gaming [ mostly racing and fps] . The only issue I have is its a glossy finish to the point it's almost mirror like, and really kills me with glare sometimes and my room isn't that bright. I also ordered a Dell u2412m to try because it has matte finish and similar performance. When the u2412m shows up I'll have 2 weeks to make up my mind. I think its going to be a tough call because the s2740l has a better panel [a-h-ips on the s2740l vs e-ips on the u2412m] but only 1920 x 1080 with glossy finish, and the u2412m is matte finish with a resolution of 1920 x1200 and a little bit higher response time. Both can be had for about $300.00 . Maybe all the s2740l needs is an anti-glare filter, I guess I'll have to wait until the u2412m shows up to see which one I like better. I decided to stick with Dell because they come highly recommended and get great reviews and also because they stand behind their warranty. TfTCentral.co.uk has a lot of good info and reviews on the newer ips panels to help make a choice. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated. I know one thing though, after looking at these new ips panels I'll never go back to a tn panel. They are THAT much better, maybe not in speed but in color and image quality and angles. Let me know what you guys think? Wow I just realized I need to update my sig, that was like 3 pc's ago! Its been way too long since I've been on here!

i do not think that there are any official 120hz input IPS panels.

ATM my pick for a 1080p monitor is any of the low ms asus IPS, they have a bunch of 23.3 and 24" some with HDMI, some with speakers, and some with both. they all use LG IPS panels and are cheaper than the lg and dell, but have a better OSD IMO, other than that they seam identical.
