Using X58-OC box as bench for the new beast :p

This is the most exciting X79 board so far, awesome job Gigabyte!

Kewl... I'm in the market to build a X79 system as my X58 just died :(

Are they SATA Power connectors??

In that third picture, does it look like you can clip on extra SATA/SAS sockets, or have I missed something new?

Also.. What heatsink mount does this use? are the old 1366 compatible?

It is for extra PCI-E power. Just like lots of boards have extra molex connectors or PCI-E 6-Pin connectors to shunt extra juice to the PCI-E lanes when using multi GPU setups Gigabyte has decided to use SATA which IMO is the best option by a long shot. as normally you have lots of extra SATA kicking around in your system.

Cheers mate. I personally prefer the firmer, more solid connectors that a molex offers. Sometimes them SATA's just disconnect, it's like the cable has more 'spring' than the connector can cope with.

well they deliver the same amount of power, but I haven't had any of my SATA power sables come lose from the X58A-OC or the 990FXA-UD7, but I see what you mean.

yes same dimensions are X58, but instead of being thru-hole, there are holes with screw threads already built into the socket.

Why is there only 4 slots for ram on this non budget board?

This board is made for extreme overclocking (even if not labeled as "OC" but "UD7"), so additional slots just complicate the pcb layout and raise the price while for extreme overclocking basically one slot would be enough RAM-amount-wise (in case going back to single channel wouldn't mean a loss of performance).
You can have 16 GiByte very cheap and even 32 GiByte in total for a moderate price, so that's enough for >99 % of all pc users today. In case that's not enough, you should probably go for a dual-socket-mainboard anyway for high-performance computing at home IMO. :)

am I the only one finding the hilarity in an OC board being fitted with a corsair h100?

No, considering that Intel's Sandy Bridge silicon is plagued with cold bugs, water seems appropriate.

I have an Antec 920 on mine lol.

Better stability under OC conditions

Well I wanted the best of the best boards, so a UD9 should be fitting?

For 8 dimms and Clear CMOS in backpanel, X79-UD5 is the model you need.

Anyone know what cases this board will fit in other than the HAF X? I've scoured Gigabyte's website looking for the "Case Support List" they mentioned in the manual, but have yet to find it...

Here you go buddy.

This board is beautiful, and it really isn't that much bigger than a regular ATX board.

Also, check out the LianLI PC-P80 case I know it supports XL-ATX for sure.
