View Full Version : Fan Recommendations for a 92mm Radiator?

Doing a new build with an Asestek 545LC (http://www.asetek.com/products/oem-standard-products/cpu-products/92mm-products/545lc.html) and need recommendations for 92mm fan(s).

This is my first WC build, and static pressure with radiators is a new variable for me. Is there some sweet spot or ratio for CFM/static pressure for WC? I've had good luck with Enermax TB Silence fans in the past, so I was looking at the Enermax Cluster (http://www.enermax.com/home.php?fn=eng/product_a1_1_2&lv0=4&lv1=13&no=30) and Everest (http://www.enermax.com/home.php?fn=eng/product_a1_1_2&lv0=4&lv1=13&no=31).

Also, is it worth lapping the HS base and/or CPU? I know it makes a small (but sometimes appreciable) difference with air cooling? Is it worth the trouble for WC?

TIA for the replies.

Is this the only cooling option that fits your case? If even full size integrated LC sys from corsair/asetek and alikes with 1x120 rad are not exactly better then top air coolers, then i expect even worse performance from 1x92 rad. LC is not miracle by itself, it can outperform air cooling only by ease of extending rad area above air coolers with harsher set limits to max weight/size for later ones.
As for fan choice .. hard to tell/advise. Most common used fans are 120mm ones, there are lot of good 3rd party tests about them. A bit worse with 140mm but still some roundups can be found. 92 .. for such unfortunately most probably you have only two options - to trust manufacturer specs (often made up of lies) or try some fan lines/series where bigger sized ones performed well. For latter choice, best noise/performance wise 120mm fan is scythe gentle typhoon. Try finding smaller sized such. Maybe it's good in smaller formfactor as well. Don't hunt too much for low speed ones, as i've noticed that for smaller size fans quiet or loud noise levels usually are at a bit higher rpms. And you NEED speed for that little rad to cool well. Also you might as well buy two of fans and use them on both side of rad in push-pull configuration to squeeze extra performance from it.
Lapping .. i probably wouldn't. Rather buy some good paste (eg. Phobya HeGrease or Prolimatech PK-1) and apply it in proper way (with degreasing/cleaning surfaces first and use little amount of paste).

How about the 92mm Gentle Typhoon (http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=36_39&products_id=24743)?

Yes, it needs to be 92mm unless I want to start modding the case (it's a mATX build).

Just my luck - looks like it's been discontinued (http://www.scythe-eu.com/forum/gentletyphoon-series/2269-gentletyphoon-92mm-discontinued.html). :shakes:

i would say get a 92-120mm fan adapter if its possible. there are a descent amount of good and cheap 120mm fans. sadly i dont know much about 92mm fans

They seem to all be in stock, if you don't mind buying from overseas?

phantomferrari: imho if he could only fit such smaller rad/fan LC sys, then fan of 120mm size is out of question too dimension wise.

If you want performance :)

In other words, when noise is no object, only pure max performance. Which rarely is the case though, especially in LC, to which users usually turn to in hunt for silence.
