View Full Version : Plasticizer free tubing?

So I've been looking over multiple threads where the inner lining of tubing is supposed to have broken free, or the plasticizer leached out, or what have you. Needless to say, this sort of bothers me about putting plasticizer-heavy tubing in my system.

I'm looking at clear tubing, 1/2" ID 3/4" OD, and I want a tubing that will stay clear and not deposit junk in my loop. Am I screwed? Or is there something better than 3403 or B4-44-X?

TygonŽ 2001 is advertized as plasticizer free. :)

I think its pretty pricey, and I can't find it in short lengths.... I didn't look for very long though. It is 'spensive.

Primoflex LRT clear is probably your best bet. I am using some right now paired w/ Ice Dragon Coolant. So far it still looks good.

The Tygon 2001 isn't really clear, it rather a rather bad fog to it.

I'd been looking at LRT, it seems to have the best comments from people. Ice Dragon is on the list as well. At least for one loop, anyway.

Who has the best price on it, in your opinions?

(I'm kinda getting confirmation that I had the right idea all along. Least I still haven't completely forgotten how to search for an answer before asking.)

I have used many, many different kinds of tubing. There simply isn't any really clear tubing that is plasticizer free that is decent. I tried some Tygon High Purity plasticizer free tubing, but it had a terrible bend radius and was really unusable.

I am now using black rubber Norprene tubing (http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=33111&catid=862&clickid=searchresults) (from US Plastics), and it is hands down the best tubing I've ever used. It has a tremendous bend radius, doesn't have plasticizer, and doesn't seem to allow water to evaporate through it. I haven't had to add any water in the 4 months or so since I installed it. It isn't clear, but it is the best tubing I've ever found, and I've tried most of them out there.

Just curious as to where you guys are getting the Ice Dragon fluid? I have not seen it on any of the U.S. sites.

Primo LRT. Used it for umm over 1.5 years. Tubing that was over a year old wasn't cloudy. On my annaul rebuild I ran a rag through it. Reused parts of it.

My two annual rebuilds...

First, look at last pics lots of that is old tubing.

This year..... just a pic, that tubing is prolly 2 years old, you can see through it.

Running DI only:
Used clear Tygon 3403 for about 5-6 months, just a little bit of haze on the inside.
Primo LRT red for over a year, still looks clear.
