Guys, we dropped below 10 million in daily team production twice this week. Last time that happened was a year ago when we had fewer members. Less than 16% of team members returned results today. We can do better than that. I realize these are the summer months when many of you are on vacation, or just relaxing. But always remember that this is Xtreme Systems. If you're concerned about your power bill, you can always crunch at 40-50% load. That shouldn't hurt you too much financially.

The next big goal is catching Easynews in WCG points. We are closing the gap on a daily basis. But at our current rate of production, it may be another year before we catch them. I'm an impatient person:) and would like to see that happen sooner than later. Some of you are already giving it everything you got and I appreciate that. But for those of you who've stop crunching, consider this. A hundred people each contributing just 500 points/day gives us an extra 50,000 team points each day and an extra 1.5 million points a month.

Thanks for reading.

I've got two Arima 4 socket [16 total core] Ubuntu servers that are dedicated crunchers that I don't want to run right now due to no A/C where I live. If someone can put them to use, PM me and we can work out the details.

I had my arima shut down because of the heat wave. It was getting too hot and I could practically see the $$$ disappearing as the AC worked overtime to battle the heat outside and the load from the system :(

I'm down currently b.c I didn't bring all my equipment to Cali this summer when I moved. Parsed it out among friends and they only run it sporadically...

I was planning on being out of production for another month, but honestly I can be up within 2 weeks.

Make super computing week the first week of December and I promise I'll make it up to you.

We can also have another hardware giveaway. That seems to get people motivated. The giveaway would be open only to active crunchers, meaning team members crunching on a daily basis.

Below is the current WCG team totals. As you can see, we are not that far behind Easynews.

Thanks for this post SB. Couldn't be more timely in my case...just the kick in the pants I've needed to start crunching 24/7/365 instead of sporadically like I've done in the past.

My Father's Day gift this year from the boss was "you can set up some more of your cancer computers in the garage". Bless her heart, she lifted the 3 computer limit! (yeah, I'm whipped) So I've been planning to get some 24/7/365 WCG machines going in there, and I started with a single 2600K system about a month ago. Even though it's hotter than the hobs of Hell around here, that thang's been running at under 55C (with ambient around 35C). So I stuck the media room pc out there as well:

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6011/5970451614_e40cb5672b_z.jpg

Shut everything down before going to northern NM last week, but I'll be at Micro Center today to get another 2600K. If all goes well I'll have 3 machines in the garage going full blast 24/7 by the end of the day, augmented by our "interior" computers once things cool off a bit. Wife likes to keep the thermostat at 75, and the AC struggles with that these days. Frick, it's gonna be 105 here today, and we're not even in August yet...

Yep, I've had to cut back due to heat. One machine clogged with dust and shut down. Now it doesn't hold the same OC (Think it's the mobo). The other one needs some rejiggering before I get it back up. Also had to stop any GPUs. No AC, extreme humidity, and 90F+ days make me unhappy (mostly from lack of sleep).
Plus I've had other distractions, and I'm waiting for an upgrade. Bulldozer can't come soon enough!

Unfortunately my current work project is eating far more clock cycles than I would want, I lost my main rig to a power-supply that died and thus my numbers are practically in the toilet. The only project that is currently performing happily is the SSD test that I started a while back.

Thus a single phenom and an Intel Atom are all that I can continue to dedicate to WCG.

BTW If anyone needs a monitor to set up a cruncher, I have one spare [After my main rig caught flames via power-supply suicide]. Just send me a PM.

I have been working out of town lately; so no time at home. I need to get my H2o going so I can get better cooling on the 2600K; I should be able to get it up to 4600 at least from 4k which should help a little. I was going to build another SR-2, but might not be a good idea right now with the newer chips coming soon. Also money is really tight right now.

oh how cute, people still think the blue screen of death messages actually are useful :D
The blue screen of death program, has not been updated in years and the only always accurate information on it is the error number; which is only the actually cause of the BSoD about one time out of ten. Without enabling replay, there is no way to pinpoint the cause of your BSoD on your Windows computer. (I've seen a 3 year old clock glitch be the cause of a BSoD, which isn't what it actually reported)

I threw my hat in the ring, I've been reading up on things. I was a bit bummed, I wanted to build a performance cluster with a pallet of computers at work and then I noticed there was no support.

I'll see if I can break page 20.

Bringing a few systems back online... I haven't been running my 2 i7's due to my AC sucking @$$ and my bills being nearly $350 in July...

That's the cherry pie tasting done for the rest of us then:( Great news for the Team though

Thanks for the added effort this week, guys. The gap continues to get smaller.

sierra_bound

The gap is now less than 300 million. We've been closing the gap by about 3 million a day. There's still a chance we will overtake them before the end of the year.:)

I so want to see that gap closed by the end of the year. Or Christmas, it would be a nice present :)

so I should replace my e6850 with something else then?

Y think we'll overtake them by Christmas! Good things coming and we tend to upgrade faster than most

Q6600? X3350,X3360,X3370?

Switcing all my crunchers now from F@H to WCG. Just added one 970 and my lappy, tomorrow I'll add at least 44 cores/threads @ 4,3GHz++
That should add about 200k+ wcg

Any reason why I should run Linux/Ubuntu, using win7 64 bit now?

everything I have read so far, seems like the windows 64 bit client has the best deal going. I'd only switch to linux if you were building a farm, and were faced with the option of having to buy the OS for multiple pc's.

Got all the win7 licenses I need, just wondered if Linux was better for points?

Well not much power to contribute. But I will try to do my part. I put 2 machines on yesterday. 1 X3220 and 1 T7600, that's only 6 threads but they should pull down a good 6-10 thousand a day. When I get my electric bill straightened out I'll be adding 4 more quad cores to the grid.

And I only had to threaten him with one little bitty phone call! j/k
Hopefully by next weekend I'll have 2 more machines up..
Will only be able to show one of them for a while yet...

You don't have to "show" it.....

You just have to tell us where it will sit in the chart that Stoneageman has going.

Or maybe just a redacted screenshot or two

I'll vote for that..
Remember way back in 2005 I told ya we'd get them?
If I remember they had 3 BILLION on us back then.
Never thought it would be easy but we have the bastages in our sights!

There is NO team anywhere that can chase down a team like we can and I mean NO ONE!
Congrats guys.. Make sure you all get your shopping done for the BBQ.
What saddens me is I'd like to see DDTUNG here when we pass them.
There are others also that are missed. Shootstraight comes to mind.

Ok, so I saw this thread late and it's not like I produce a lot (hell maybe a quarter of what movieman does on his bad days)... but I'm one stubborn bastard... Turning up a couple C2D boxes today which should put in a few thousand more PPD. Nothing major, but it's all adding up (ranked 147 and climbing)!

I am going to buy a new box soon. Still want to see some WCG numbers for bulldozer, but probably building a sandy system.

^^ there we go! I think the XS team is phenomenal and people were probably like myself -- not checking in all that often.

So from the changes last night here's the small difference so far:

Statistics Date Total Run Time
(y:d:h:m:s) Points Generated Results Returned
10/20/2011 0:009:08:41:21 39,880 122
10/19/2011 0:006:20:34:06 24,305 59
10/18/2011 0:007:07:38:54 23,125 47

Get ready Easynews! The cooler weather is here and we're commin to get cha!!!
