Anyone have any idea how to make the orange "sponge" part of this black? I tried fabric dye but it wouldn't absorb into the fibers of the sponge. I also tried black spray paint, although I don't know the type, and it looked really good. However, after letting it dry for two days when I squeeze the sponge very tightly it flakes off in tiny piece that look like grains of pepper, which I guess would be expected. Maybe a different type of paint would work better. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you,
John

It is just a 3 pcs of foam glued together. Get new ones in color you like and don't bother with it:)

must be so PE foam I assume.

Perhaps rubber "paint"/coating will work?

Actually, its two pieces on neoprene and one piece of sponge. If I could have found a sponge in black I would not have posted, although I may now have a lead on some. Thanks for the reply though.

Hmm, how about instead of painting it try apply black tape around it's sides?

This works as well, and it's a lot easier to work with: http://www.petrastechshop.com/pegviabbl.html

I thought the center was a silicone rubber sponge?

You are correct, sir.

AFAIK, it's near impossible to get anything to stick to silicone unless it been formulated properly.

Wouldn't it be easier to get a black piece of the same type foam from somewhere like McMaster Carr?

What happens when you compress them and let them decompress?...does the paint flake off?

Hence my original post. It did for me. ANyways, I went to Hobby Lobby and got some white foam of approximately the same density. The white looks good with my color scheme.
