Unlocked barton...how to

I bought a AMD Athlon XP 2500 off of ebay and the guy I bought it from said it is one of the unlocked ones and for some reason most computers recognize it as a 3200. I am wondering how do i find out if he is truthful...where on the CPU chip could i tell if it is actually unlocked?
