Haven't seen many oc's from the new locked 2500's, and I killed both my 2100 AIUHB 0302 :( :( and my Barton 2500...both were good for 2.5ghz...:(:soap: :cussing:

Soooo, I'm wondering what to replace my 1800 paly core im running right now...at a sad 220x7.5...

My Mobile XP 2400+ was unlocked, Barton core to boot. It does 2.5 on air but not much more. The Mobile XP 2500+ are supposed to be unlocked as well and should clock higher than the 2400+, but can't say for sure because Newegg was OOS on them so I bought my 2400+ instead.

I'd be happy at 2.3ghz honestly, I was lovin' my 2100 @ 220x10.5...

What vcore took you up to 2.5 with that 2400?

Edit: And why is the 2400 rated at 1.93 ghz, 512 cache, and the 2500 1.83ghz and only 256 cache...no make sense to me...

Either the 2500+ is a mistake, or Newegg has replaced the original 512k Barton core mobile with something else :(

2.5@1.9v, 250X10 Not prime stable but 245X10 is :)

so it seems, either way, im good for at least 220x10.5...excellent...thx mr johnson

There you go, 248X10 @1.9v

I think I'll begin lowering the volts, I'm actually memory bound at this stage. Need to do the Vdimm mod, parts are here finally.

The only thing that's not a mistake there on the 2500+ XP-M is the price ;) It's 512k cache and 1.45 volts.

Also, I hear the 2400+ XP-Ms get better overclocks.

Tweaked!

Welcome to Xtreme :)

Yeah, their add does seem like it's a little off.

It might be a bit premature, but looks like a dead mobile 2400+ here.

Either that or my brand new Fortron 530, possibly the DFI Infinity bit the dust.

I was trying a little experiment. Vcore set to 1.95 in BIOS last night. I was running memtest #5 loops all night. It was OK this morning so I left it running. Came home tonight to a stopped system.

Applying mains power spins the heatsink fan briefly, but it won't power up. Both power and memory LED's light up. No odor of magic blue smoke anywhere on the board, no visible sign of failure on board or CPU.

I've already tested the memory in another rig, it's good. CPU testing will have to wait 'til after supper. More later - heh!

Well, with a stock 1.25, 1.9 5 is a kick in the pants for it...

Stock was 1.45, but 1.95 is still a kick lol. My Infinity under-reports temps, so although that 1.95 showed only 32c in BIOS it could have been (should be!) much higher.

Infinity "recovery" BIOS boots that 2400+ at 800 MHz, weird how the Infinity thinks it has an 8 mult stock.

CPU is OK, posting with it in my kd7-e right now. Must be the board or the PSU.

Interestingly, at 1.9v, 250X10 on the Infinity the "Diode" temp at idle was 30c.

On the kd7-e, 1.9v, 200X12 the diode temp is running 51c. Guess which one I believe

Agghh! It was a massively failed floppy drive. The Fortron was shutting off due to excessive drain through the floppy power connection.

When I connected my TTGI, the 12v (red) wire immediately glowed red hot, lots of burning insulation. I quickly pulled the power plug. Only lost the floppy connector section of the cable.

Bad news is, I've lost at least 20 FSB, looks like the IDE controller is flaky and until I get another fast board I can't say for sure if the memory is OK or not. Slow to boot and unstable, even at 230 when it used to run at 250+

At least the Mobile 2400+ appears to be OK.

I went and ordered a 2500...shipped today, hopefully will be here by mid next week...I could have waited for my 2600 Tbred to come back from AMD rma...but since I bought it through a local store, I thought maybe they would exchange it...but nooooooooo, they want to do the rma process...I don't wanna wait that long. :) This paly is killing me...I'm scoring 14k~15k in 3dmark2k1 with my 9800XT...that is not cool.

After a 30 minute clear CMOS, my board/mobile 2400+ is back to being able to do 250 FSB X 10 @ 1.9v.

One lingering problem, it's slower to get by the last POST message before booting Win2k, and 50% of the time it black-screens at the screen where Win2k shows the advancing bar across the bottom of the screen. Will try an O/S reload to see if it's some subtle corruption or and IDE/drive failure.

Could possibly try using the SATA on board to see if it is related to that or not...or throw in a pci IDE card.

Whatever it was, it's now cleared up. The Infinity behaves exactly the way it did before.

Thanks for the advice and good luck with your new 2500 :) Last of the unlocked AMD :(
